Job Description

What is Timber Ridge? Timber Ridge is a wilderness treatment center, designed to provide a 6-15 month program that rehabilitates at-risk boys between the ages of 12 and 17. We are located near the Uwharrie National Forest about an hour east of Charlotte. What is a Group Leader? We currently have openings for our counselor/group leader positions. As a group leader you would live with a group of eight to ten teen aged boys in a wilderness setting for the duration of your shift. You will help the group make their time goals, guide them in problem solving, and lead them in activities and work projects designed to improve confidence and cooperation. These boys are all here to receive help for whatever emotional or behavioral problems they've had in their lives. They receive treatment primarily through the group living process, but also meet monthly with licensed counselors who help them resolve their familial issues. What's the schedule? Group leaders work a rotating schedule consisting of three days on and three days off. Thus, your days off move back by one day every week. You will live here, onsite, for your three day shift, and then leave to go home for three days. Ideally, your group will will take a 3-day canoeing or backpacking trip in the Southeast each year. What is the benefit package? The annual average pay starts at $35,000 per year. Timber Ridge offers many benefits as well, including:
  • 10 vacation days per year (which do rollover from year to year, and may be cashed in if you don't want to use them)
  • 12 sick days per year (which also accrue, but cannot be resold)
  • BCBS health insurance and dental insurance starting after 60 days
  • 5% annual raises
  • room for growth and leadership; a promotional cycle based on experience and ability with accompanying 5% pay raises roughly every 8 months
  • access to our 401(k) plan after a year of employment
  • meals and lodging are also provided when you're on shift What is the website?
