The City of Wilmington is recruiting for a Recreation Coordinator for our Maides Park location to help create safe, engaging, and inclusive experiences for residents of all ages. You'll have the opportunity to lead programs, build meaningful community connections, manage a dynamic recreation facility, and contribute to special events that enrich the quality of life in Wilmington. Typical Tasks Coordinates facility operations by opening and closing facilities, managing facility operations on weekends, assisting with maintenance of grounds and facility, monitoring for security issues, reporting necessary repairs, coordinating facility use, operating city vehicles, and recommending facility programming. Implements recreation programs and activities by delivering developmentally appropriate activities, submitting program proposals, soliciting sponsorships, collaborating with external organizations and providing community outreach, purchasing supplies, setting up and breaking down programs, planning and leading activities, recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers, developing programs based on community needs, marketing programs and events, evaluating events and programs, developing registration forms, leading excursions and day trips, managing risks, and assisting in the development of program budgets. Performs administrative duties by creating registration forms, creating flyers, recommending rules and regulations, scheduling activities, answering phones, greeting patrons, running cash register, preparing and delivering bank deposits, maintaining attendance log, updating member files, making copies, distributing marketing materials, assisting with programs and special events, assisting with budget maintenance, ordering supplies, and maintaining communication with other agencies.
Qualifications Education :
Associate's degree or higher in recreation management, physical education or another closely related field of study.
Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of experience in parks and recreation programming. Experience should include planning for after-school activities and/or recreation programs for all ages.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid and AED certification upon hire Ability to work nights and weekends Ability to communicate and foster a cooperative and professional culture

Applicant Status Updates :
After the closing date for this position, applications will be screened by Human Resources. Health Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week. Health Insurance
  • The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage. Dental Insurance
  • Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire. Employees, their spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage. Life Insurance
  • The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary.
Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase.
Retirement:
NC Local Government Retirement System
  • All benefits eligible employees make a mandatory 6% contribution every pay period. Deferred Compensation
  • The city contributes an amount equal to 4.5% of the annual salary to a 401(k) plan regardless of employee contribution. Employees may choose to contribute additional money to the 401(k) or 457 deferred compensation plans, without a match from the City, within the IRS guidelines. Employees can earn from 10 to 24 days each year.
