78 Hourly Location Parks and Recreation, 14 Canterbury Road, NH Job Type Permanent Part-Time Job Number 2027-17 Department Parks & Recreation Opening Date 09/11/2026 Closing Date 9/25/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description Benefits Description Concord Parks and Recreation Department is looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic and energetic person to fill a new permanent part time Recreation Specialist position. This new position is responsible for the planning, organizing, and running our senior citizens program at our Concord and Penacook locations. Due to programming and event supervision, hours may change on a weekly basis and may include evening and some weekend hours. Normal work week will be 25-28 hours a week, year-round. Work hours will typically be Monday
- Friday 9 am to 3pm, however as programs and participation varies so will the hours.
Some evenings and weekends.
Pay range to start:
$23.14 to $26.78 depending on qualifications and experience. Top of wage scale is $33.45. This position includes paid vacation, sick and holiday as well as short term disability, long term disability, and paid family medical leave. Examples of Duties Job Summary o Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director o Works on organizing, planning and supervising events for our senior citizens. o Assist with promoting all senior events and programs through press releases, posters and other marketing resources. o Assist with the gathering of program surveys, compiling results in excel and preparing reports on findings using Microsoft word. o Ensures all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner such as contracts, time sheets, attendance reports and maintenance reports. o Follows established procedures regarding accidents, discipline or facility problems. o Follows and enforces department rules and regulations. o Strives to establish positive public relations for the Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Concord. o May be required to lift items that weigh more than 25 lbs. o Meets with Community Partners to plan events
Essential Job Functions:
Performs building supervision duties, which include accepting class registration, using computers, and cash handling. Set up and take down for classes and public meetings. Minor cleaning of rooms
- pickup trash, sweep floors as needed.
Responsible for securing building at the end of day. Maintains inventory of all supplies required to perform the duties of the position. May assist with supervision of recreation programs and instructors Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience:
Associates Degree in education, recreation or closely related field of study and at least 2 years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience working specifically with Senior Citizens will be considered. Applicants must have current Red Cross First Aid and Infant & Child CPR. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and will be required to pass a Criminal Background Check and Driving Check.

Communicate with patrons using facility and give directions to location of programs and events Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. Use of computer and telephones are required Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

City of Concord Human Resources Department Benefits Summary Permanent Part-Time Employees Permanent Part-Time Employees are eligible for the following benefits: Income Protection Plan The Income Protection Plan is provided at no cost and includes a pro-rated sick leave program, Short-Term Disability Insurance, and Long-Term Disability Insurance. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) FSAs can be set up for Health or Dental Care expenses and/or Dependent Care expenses, allowing an employee to set aside a predetermined amount of money on a pre-tax basis and be reimbursed for eligible expenses under the IRS code. Annual (Vacation) Leave Permanent Part-Time Employees accrue leave on a pro-rated basis. Annual leave cannot be used during an employee's first six months of employment. The Personnel Rules & Regulations, departmental approval procedures, and/or any applicable collective bargaining agreement should be referred to for details. Paid Holidays Permanent Part-Time Employees are compensated 4 hours of holiday pay (half the compensation of a full-time employee) on City observed holidays. Subject to the terms of applicable collective bargaining agreements and/or the Personnel Rules and Regulations, employees generally observe 12.5 paid holidays each year. NH Paid Family & Medical Leave (NH PFML) Provides a 60% wage replacement (up to the social security wage cap) for up to six weeks per year (after an initial 7-day elimination period) for absences from work for covered common life events such as: An employee's own serious health condition when disability coverage does not apply An employee to bond with a child during the first year of birth, including placement for adoption or fostering An employee to care for a family m ember with a serious health condition Any qualifying urgent demand or need arising out of the fact that the employee's spouse, child or parent is a covered military member on covered active duty An employee to care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness if the employee is the service member's spouse, child, parent or next of kin NH PFML will run concurrently with the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) when the employee qualifies for both programs. If the employee is eligible for workers compensation, they will not qualify for PFML benefits for this same event. If the employee qualifies for Short-Term Disability, they will not qualify for PFML benefits for the same days absent. This leave can be used intermittently. Merit Pay Plan Permanent Part-Time Employees are eligible for a merit pay increase, typically one step on the applicable wage schedule, upon satisfactory completion of their probationary period and annually thereafter (again subject to satisfactory performance). Health/Dental Insurance Permanent Part-Time Employees may purchase Health and/or Dental Insurance at their own expense . Employee Perks Family Pool Pass for City Employees, Non-Concord Residents Go to the Parks and Recreation office at 14 Canterbury Rd, show your work badge or picture id. This is a family pass but you must be the one to sign up initially. Parks and Recreation will confirm current employment on a roster. You will receive a specific color employee pass that you will use to gain entrance at all open City Pools and the Splash Pad. Beaver Meadow Golf Course Guest of Member Rate Employees will need to register with the Proshop to obtain a household account. Every employee will need photo ID, proof of employment (badge or paystub) and email address. Once they have completed that task, they will check in through our normal processes and receive the employee rate. Concord Public Library Card for City Employees, Non-residents Employees will need to go to any of the three branches to obtain a non
- resident library card.
You will need to bring photo identification and your name will be checked against the active employee roster. Once confirmed, your Concord Public Library card application will grant you full library usage while employed. The pass must be renewed and will be set to expire each August 31st of the current year.
