Job Description

The Adventures in Creative Writing Camp Counselor will support the Adventures in Creative Writing Summer Camp in coordination with English Department and BGSU Summer Academic Youth Programs (SAYP). Counselors will work closely with a co-counselor and Camp Director to prepare materials for daily writing activities and experiences at the BGSU Planetarium, Marine Biology Lag, the BGSU Herpetarium, and Department of Theater and Film. Additional responsibilities will be to support students throughout their writing process and camp activities. Career Readiness Competencies Adjust tone and approach based on audience (e.g., peers vs. supervisors). Break down tasks into steps to complete work more efficiently. Recognize team needs and step up when leadership is required. Follow instructions, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work. Support others by offering assistance when your workload allows. Attend training sessions Assure that SAYP participants adhere to policies and procedures Serve as role model Daily supervision of day camp programming and activities Support Camp Director, students, and faculty in daily writing activities Assist with program and camp transitions when warranted Office Administrative tasks as warranted (preparing camper packets, bags, check-in rosters, name tags, etc.) Meet with participants to resolve conflicts and positively influence their behaviors Plan and conduct student enrichment activities during camp as needed Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the following areas or comparable: English Creative Writing Minimum of 4 semesters or 60 hours of post-secondary education
