Job Description
About the Role Teaching players of all skill levels - from beginners to advanced competitor's pickleball techniques, rules, and strategy. Promote fitness, skill development, and community engagement. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment. Promote Sandusky Recreation to the public. Perform duties independently with limited direct supervision. Core Competencies Structure and Compliance Deliver structured, engaging classes according to program schedule. Prepare and maintain equipment and facilities. Enroll and manage class rosters. Provide clear instructions, demonstrate techniques, and correct form. Ensure participant safety and follow facility/safety protocols. Encourage participation and motivation. Proficiency in maintaining records of program attendance and finances, as well as ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to recreation and parks. This includes supervising activities in accordance with established regulations and reporting incidents as necessary. Interpersonal Skills Strong interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with the public, various City offices, and colleagues. Building effective working relationships with employees and dealing with various kinds of people are crucial aspects of this role. Professional Represent the program positively; uphold dress code and conduct standards. Be punctual and prepared for each class. Communication Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for corresponding with participants, colleagues, and supervisors. This includes completing communication forms, providing instructions, and leading training sessions for new activities. Organization and Adaptability Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing circumstances. This involves planning and directing classes, following directions, and working well with others to ensure the successful implementation of recreational activities and events. Essential Responsibilities Promote fitness, skill development, and community engagement. Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Promote Sandusky Recreation to the public. Attends scheduled staff training and meetings. Perform duties independently with limited direct supervision. Lead individual and group pickleball lessons for players of all ages and skill levels. Develop engaging lesson plans focused on skill development, strategy, and gameplay. Organize drills, clinics, and friendly competitions. Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to participants. Maintain equipment and court setup as needed. Stay current on pickleball trends, rules, and teaching techniques. Organizes the daily operations for assigned class. Ability to interact with the public and various City offices. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and work with diverse age groups. Attends scheduled staff training and meetings. Maintains records of program attendance and monies received. Specific record keeping will vary amongst programs. Supervises in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations. Ensures compliance for City of Sandusky Recreation and parks. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Corresponds through written and verbal communication. Required to complete communication forms including but not limited to incident forms. Routes approved reports and records to superiors for action. Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Hours based on class demand and facility programming. Responsible to self-initiate activities consistent with the City of Sandusky's and department's goals and objectives. Must report for work at required time and date and maintain a responsible attendance record. The ability to follow a supervisor's instructions, tolerate certain levels of stress and attend work on a punctual, regular basis. The avoidance of violent behavior that threatens the safety of other employees. To assist with set-up, supervise activity implementation and clean up for special events. Related and other duties as required.
