We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more -- including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities. With nearly 300 regular employees and a budget of nearly $40 million annually, Recreation is a major operation with significant impact on the communities we serve. Seattle Parks and Recreation is seeking to fill permanent benefited Recreation Center Assistant Coordinator positions in our Community Centers. The Community Centers are the connecting agents for our neighborhoods and residents, offering programming 7 days a week for all ages. These positions serve as secondary supervisors regarding building operations, facility supervision, programming, community engagement, and scheduling solutions to maintain our guaranteed operating hours to the public. This is a public-facing job with high levels of customer service and engagement. If selected for an interview, you will be notified by invitation to select an interview time during our interview days. Interviews may be in-person or virtual. This position requires on-site work during assigned shifts and does not offer remote work options. Evening, night, and weekend shifts will be required. Job Responsibilities Assist supervisor (Recreation Center Coordinator) in planning, coordinating, supervising, assigning, monitoring and evaluating the work of Recreation Leaders, Recreation Attendants, interns and volunteers who provide recreational programs for the general public. Develop and recommends recreation-specific recreation programming techniques, procedures, materials and equipment; informs and instructs subordinates, volunteers and participants concerning policies, procedures and programs. Assist supervisor in reviewing and preparing recommendations for new recreation center programs and recreation program policies for the department; coordinates the implementation of approved community center programs. Provide input for the preparation of the center's annual budget; recommends budgets for specialized recreation programs; prepares grant proposals as assigned. Assist supervisor in organizing, staffing and coordinating the activities of the center's advisory council. Disseminate program information to interested individuals, groups and general public; meets with neighborhood and community groups to plan for special events and identify recreation program needs. Assist supervisor in scheduling recreation programs or special events at the center and at other facilities, recruit volunteers, officials and instructors for sporting events. Maintain records and prepares reports on program activities, invoices, attendance forms, work orders and registrations. Assist supervisor in preparing press releases and other promotional materials for community recreation programs. Purchase and maintain program supplies and equipment. Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned. Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Recreation administration, Physical Education or a related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class). License, Certification and Other Requirements Current Washington State driver's license. First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate required within six months of hire. You will be successful in this role if you have: Experience programming a community recreation center or facility. Experience in program registration systems, including but not limited to program entry, refunds, registration, reservations, and managing accounts. Experience in collaborating with other recreation professionals both internal and external to deliver high quality programs for the public. Experience in developing and delivering new ideas for programs and events for the community. Additional Information The full salary range for this position is $44.43 - $51.76 Hourly.
