A Recreation or Activities Worker leads tours and vacation trips in outdoor or wilderness areas. Leads hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing or diving activities for a group. Provides specialized knowledge about the history, terrain, ecology or wildlife for the tour. Manages transportation, equipment and provisions and assists with cooking.
The Island Recreation Center Outdoor Recreation Coordinator is a full-time, exempt position under the direction of the Programs Manager. Duties include but are not limited to; planning, organizing, coordinating, and carrying out a variety of recreation and outdoor educational programs/events to meet the needs of the public. Will also assist in the management of the Hilton Head Island Fishing Cooperative Park, as directed. Will be responsible for the management of programming/special events; lead, schedule, and create programs as directed, while implementing training for related areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and facilitate all outdoor recreation programs, including summer Outdoor Recreation camps. Provide leadership and guidance to the program participants through the ability to motivate, lead, guide, and teach children and adults in an outdoor program setting. Conduct and/or oversee Kayak & Stand-up Paddleboard Eco-Tours throughout the year. Maintain and collect monthly rental fees for the public kayak storage at the Fishing Cooperative Park. Maintain and update programs and participant databases (Program Description Forms and Sportsman). Maintain the highest standards of health and safety by keeping the program participants' best interests in mind at all times. Observe safety precautions; correct minor safety problems; conduct activities in a safe manner and maintain discipline during programming. Monitor website and programs and notify Marketing Coordinator of needed changes. Review and approve reservation requests for the Fishing Cooperative Park pavilion. Ensure signs are being printed and displayed at the park. Inventory, maintain, and order supplies for the Fishing Cooperative Park and place orders as necessary. Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, program participants, and parents. Be flexible and a team player, working in collaboration with your team. Always be customer service-oriented and adhere to all Island Recreation Association standards. Maintain a clean and orderly facility. Attend staff meetings and functions, including our primary Special Events throughout the year. Represent the Island Recreation Center as a role model of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. Accept special projects as assigned by the Island Recreation Association's Executive Director Desired Skills and Requirements Bachelor's Degree in a related field or minimum of 2 years of outdoor recreation experience Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR/AED Trained & certified•(will train after hire) Possess minimum of a USA Archery Level I Coach Certification (will train after hire) Possess minimum of ACA L-2 Coastal Kayak Touring Instructor certification (will train after hire) Valid Drivers' license with a clean driving record, background check required Proven ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to; various watercraft, utility vehicles, must be able to safely operate and haul trailers. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays if necessary
Physical Demands:
