Job Description
Camp Headwaters is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic camp counselors for the 2026 summer season. Camp Headwaters will run June 1, 2026 - July 31, 2026. We offer four two-week sessions, along with one shorter 3-day session. We require all counselors to commit to at least one full two-week session and two paid training days in late April/ early May. For nine weeks each summer, Headwaters School hosts a summer program for children ages 18 months to 5 years. Our counselors make sure every child has fun and stays safe, creating a summer filled with excitement, adventure, and care. They provide a positive, supportive environment where kids can explore, make new friends, and create lasting memories. We invite all members of our community—students, guides, staff, parents, and trustees—to be Peacemakers, Advocates, Creators, and Thinkers. While Headwaters School follows a Montessori-based curriculum during the school year, Camp Headwaters offers a more relaxed, adaptable summer program that does not adhere to the same curriculum structure. The Summer Camp Counselor will report directly to our Auxiliary Programs Manager. Job Qualifications Previous experience working with or caring for children is required. Strong passion for working with young children and fostering their growth. Commitment to equity and inclusion practices, with the ability to implement them in the classroom. Creative, dependable, and able to collaborate effectively as part of a team. Ability to remain calm, focused, and composed in a dynamic environment. Operates with a high level of integrity and professionalism. Highly organized and comfortable using technology. Must be 18 years of age or older at the start of employment. Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities Collaborate with a small team of counselors to care for a group of approximately fourteen 18-month to 3-year-olds or twenty-five 3-5-year-olds, ensuring their safety, development, and well-being in a supportive environment. Support children throughout their summer experience, fostering a positive and enriching atmosphere. Create and maintain an environment that aligns with the developmental needs and sensitive periods of the children in your care, while adhering to Texas Licensing Standards to ensure a safe and compliant environment. Communicate effectively to foster understanding of the summer program, build positive relationships within the Headwaters community, and maintain privacy and confidentiality for all students and families. Coordinate with the Auxiliary Programs Manager to integrate and implement the curriculum effectively. Build strong relationships with parents, maintaining regular communication about their child's needs and helping them understand the summer program. Manage student behavior both in the classroom and on school premises in a positive and constructive manner. Willing to support toilet training, as needed. Represent the School's mission and philosophy, acting as an ambassador for its values. Perform other duties as assigned. We offer three pay ranges for counselor positions:

$20/hour During the interview process, candidates may indicate their preferred position. However, final placement decisions will be made by the Auxiliary Programs Manager based on experience and qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates who commit to all nine weeks of the summer. Counselors will receive free tuition for their children enrolled in Headwaters Summer Programs during the weeks they work.
