Job Description

About us This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Coordinator intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that welcomes all participants in a nurturing environment through staff development & program innovation. Job Overview Under the direction of the Sports Director, the Sports Coordinator supports the day-to-day operation and supervision of YMCA sports programs, ensuring a high-quality experience for participants, families, volunteers, and officials. This position requires a confident, dependable leader who can communicate effectively with parents, make sound decisions when the Sports Director is unavailable, and keep programs moving forward. The Sports Coordinator will assist with game-day operations, participant engagement, program organization, and the supervision and development of referees, including setting clear expectations and holding officials accountable to a high standard of professionalism and performance. This position averages 15-25+ hours per week, with evening and Saturday availability required. Responsibilities and Duties
  • Ensuring the mission and character development values are consistently communicated and incorporated into all sports programs.
  • Keeping up to date inventory on all equipment, materials, and supplies; regularly checking all equipment to ensure it is properly maintained and reporting any irregularities to the Sports Director
  • Assisting the Sports Director in the following areas: Field/Facility preparation and management Enforcement of sport policies and practices Game/tournament operations Prepare for and facility Coaches Meetings
  • Following all risk management guidelines according to branch policies and procedures and prepared to implement emergency procedures All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum age 18. GED or High School Diploma.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk, and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity. Must be able to lead and coach teams and individuals and have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment. Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times.
