Located in the beautiful mountains of Park City, Utah, ROOTs Transition supports adolescent females ages 15-18 and their families by blending elements of outdoor therapy and residential treatment in a home-like setting. Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Outdoor Recreation, Psychology, Social Work, Family Studies, Exercise Science, or a related behavioral health field. Experience designing, planning and leading therapeutic recreational programming. Previous experience in the mental / behavioral health field. Valid driver's license and approved driving record.

Preferred:

Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR). Experience in residential treatment, behavioral health, outdoor programming, or experiential education. Experience working with adolescent females.

Required Trainings Post Hire:

Food Handling Certification. First Aid & CPR Certification. Wilderness First Responder Certification.

Key Responsibilities:

Therapeutic Recreation Programming:

Design, coordinate, and facilitate therapeutic recreation programming aligned with individualized treatment goals. Lead experiential and outdoor-based activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, biking, paddling, indoor climbing, fitness groups, community outings, and educational activities. Ensure activities are safe, developmentally appropriate, and supportive of each client's treatment plan. Integrate outdoor and recreational experiences into the broader therapeutic process.

Clinical Collaboration and Documentation:

Write and maintain recreational therapy sections of Individualized Care Plans. Participate in weekly treatment team meetings. Provide progress updates and contribute to treatment planning as appropriate. Collaborate with clinical and program staff to support consistent, interdisciplinary care.

Gear, Logistics, and Safety:

Purchase, organize, maintain, and transport recreational therapy equipment and outdoor gear. Coordinate trip logistics, including transportation, permits, meals, equipment, and safety planning. Follow organizational protocols to minimize risk during off-campus activities, camping trips, and recreation programming. Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for clients and staff.

Program Development and Community Partnerships:

Support the development of retreats, community service opportunities, volunteer experiences, and outreach events. Build and maintain partnerships with local nonprofits, recreational organizations, and community resources. Help enhance programming through creative, engaging, and mission-aligned recreation opportunities.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

This role includes both indoor and outdoor work. The Recreational Therapist must be able to participate in outdoor and experiential activities with clients in varying weather conditions and terrain.

The Position May Require:

Hiking, biking, camping, skiing, paddling, climbing, fitness activities, and other outdoor programming. Lifting at least 50 pounds and occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force to move equipment or supplies. Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and physical endurance during activities. Driving to off-site locations and transporting gear or supplies. Working in environments that may include heat, cold, snow, rain, uneven terrain, wildlife, and other outdoor conditions.
