Position Summary Under the general direction of the Community Services Coordinator , the Recreation Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations of City recreation programs and activities. This position helps ensure quality recreational experiences for participants while promoting a positive image of Riverdale City within the community. The Recreation Specialist may also provide guidance and oversight to part-time staff and volunteers as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Coordinate and support City recreation programs and activities. Assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of community recreation services. Promote positive public relations and maintain a favorable image of Riverdale City. Monitor, maintain, and control the use of recreation equipment and supplies. Assist with the City#39;s annual Old Glory Days Celebration and other special events. Collaborate effectively with City staff, volunteers, community partners, and participants. Provide excellent customer service to residents and program participants. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing recreation, community services, event coordination, or closely related duties; or An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
Recreation program development and administration. Rules and regulations associated with various sports and recreational activities. Personal computers and common software applications, including: Microsoft Word Spreadsheets General office software programs Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, community organizations, participants, and the public. Work effectively with individuals from a variety of age groups and backgrounds. Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment. Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Special Qualifications Valid driver#39;s license preferred. Work Environment This position works in both office and outdoor environments. Duties require a variety of physical activities, including: Walking Standing Sitting Reaching Stooping Light lifting Successful performance requires effective communication, visual observation, hearing, attention to detail, and sound judgment. The position also requires frequent local travel as part of normal job responsibilities.
