Prince William County Parks & Recreation has an exciting opportunity for a Recreation Specialist to support recreation programming through the County's First Tee program and Lake Ridge Park. This position plays an important role in delivering engaging, high-quality recreation experiences for youth, families, and the community while supporting the development and growth of programs that promote active lifestyles, skill development, and positive youth development.
About This Role:
The Recreation Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs and services, with a primary focus on First Tee programming countywide and recreation programming at Lake Ridge Park. This position will help develop and offer First Tee classes based on the established curriculum, age groups, developmental stages, and program requirements, while supporting participants as they progress through the program. The position combines program development, instruction, participant engagement, and day-to-day program coordination. The Recreation Specialist will work with participants, families, coaches, volunteers, and community partners to provide safe, inclusive, and engaging recreation opportunities. The position will also assist with Lake Ridge Park programming, helping ensure programs meet community needs and provide a positive customer experience. Responsibilities include coordinating program schedules, monitoring participation and enrollment, maintaining program records, assisting with program promotion, and evaluating program effectiveness. The successful candidate will be organized, adaptable, customer-focused, and able to build positive relationships while creating meaningful recreation experiences for the community. The ideal candidate will bring experience working with youth, recreation, sports, coaching, education, or related programs and will have a passion for using recreation to support youth development and community engagement. Knowledge of golf, First Tee programming, or youth golf instruction is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be flexible, organized, customer-focused, and able to build positive relationships with participants, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners. They will bring energy and creativity to program development and delivery. They will move past the mindset of "this is how we've always done it" and won't hesitate to explore new ideas and approaches.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or
G.E.D. 4
years of related experience in recreation, sports, youth programming, education, coaching, or a related field
Preferences:
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks & Recreation, Sports Management, Education, or a related field. 5+ years of related experience in recreation, sports, youth programming, education, coaching, or a related field. Experience developing and delivering youth recreation, sports, or instructional programs. Experience working with youth through coaching, mentoring, education, or recreation. Knowledge of golf, youth golf programming, or First Tee curriculum and programming. Experience coordinating programs, instructors/coaches, volunteers, schedules, and participants. Experience with community outreach, program promotion, or recreation registration software
Special Requirements:

Work Schedule:
37.5 hours a week; typical schedule is between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, with weekend and holiday work required based on operational needs and program/event schedules. This position is classified as exempt and can adjust hours to meet operational needs.
Hiring Salary Range :
