GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs responsible childcare and recreation work in accordance with the program standards for children between the ages of five (5) through twelve (12) at an assigned location. Assists with planning and participating in organized childcare and recreational activities with children. Performs other duties as assigned. Shift Hours and/or
Days Worked:
Monday-Friday, 1:45-6:00pm Hours Required for this position: 21.25 ESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with planning and actively participates with staff and children in activities including games, music, arts, crafts, and playground activities, as well as other appropriate activities Observes all activities to ensure the protection and safety of all participants Provides a positive and authoritative approach to guiding behavior using age-appropriate limits and choices Encourages children to take responsibility for their role in the classroom community
NON ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Teaches good eating habits and personal hygiene Ensures children have proper rest periods Ensures each child has individualized support in each activity
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
Education Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience Preferred:
Some experience working with children in a structured environment.
Certifications/ Licenses Required:
Have and maintain a Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification or obtain same after hire Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge, skill and interest in recreational activities suitable for children ages five (5) through twelve (12) in a group setting Ability to deal effectively with participants, encourage participation in the various activities; and to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, participants and the general public Ability to follow oral and written instructions and adhere to program rules and objectives Additional Requirements In accordance with State licensing requirements, must be age sixteen(16) or older. Must complete pre-employment training and attend a minimum of 12 hours of childcare related training annually. Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results. Following a conditional offer of employment, must submit to a Tuberculosis test. Must also be able to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section of this job description. Supervisory Responsibilities NONE
