Job Description

General Manager — Edgar's Bakery, Huntsville Area Job Title (for the posting field): General Manager —
Edgar's Bakery, Birmingham, AL Area Pay:
$55,000 - $65,000 per year
Job Type:
Full-time Location:
Birmingham, AL (multiple locations available) Lead a Bakery That People Remember Nobody drives across town for an ordinary Tuesday. They come to Edgar's for the wedding cake, the first birthday, the graduation, the "we got the news and we're celebrating tonight." Since Terry and Dottie Smith opened the first Edgar's in a Birmingham neighborhood in 1998, we've grown to eleven Alabama locations on a simple idea: get the details right, and people will trust you with the moments that matter. We're hiring General Managers for our Huntsville-area bakeries — leaders to own the numbers, build the team, and make sure every box that leaves the counter is worth the drive. If you've been running a restaurant and you're tired of midnight closes, skip ahead to the schedule section. We think you'll like it. What You'll Own The business. You're accountable for your location's performance — food cost, labor, and supply targets built from sales forecasts, projections, and budget analysis. You'll read the numbers, spot the drift early, and adjust. Product and supply ordering is yours, driven by real sales data rather than guesswork. The team. You'll recruit, hire, train, and develop your whole roster — co-managers, assistant managers, and associates. That means running regular training, giving honest performance evaluations, and building the kind of bench that produces your next manager. We promote from within, and the best GMs here are measured partly by who they grow. The operation.
Daily operations run through you:
smooth service, food safety, and a clean, well-run store — front of house and back. You'll also handle the people logistics that keep it all upright, including scheduling, payroll, and HR compliance, in line with company policy and applicable regulations. The guest experience. When an order is complicated, high-stakes, or has gone sideways, it lands on your desk. A wedding cake. A corporate catering order due at 7 a.m. A customer who deserves a better answer than the one they got. You're the person who makes it right. What We're Looking For Required High school diploma or GED 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in foodservice or retail 3+ years in the food industry, including at least 1 year in foodservice management Comfort with everyday business technology — POS and scheduling systems, email, and spreadsheets (our systems are Windows-based) Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills A real track record in customer service and team leadership Availability for day-shift scheduling and reliable transportation to the Huntsville area Preferred Bachelor's degree in foodservice, hospitality, business, or a related field Experience in a bakery, café, catering, or made-to-order environment More than any line above: we hire for character. If you're the kind of leader who does the right thing when the store is slammed and nobody's watching, you'll fit here. Compensation & Benefits $55,000 - $65,000 per year , based on experience 401(k) with company matching Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off Paid training and ongoing professional development Employee discount — the strawberry cake alone is worth negotiating over Advancement opportunity in a growing eleven-location company that fills leadership roles from within The Schedule (Worth Its Own Section) Every Edgar's bakery in the Birmingham area runs Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a day-shift role. No 1 a.m. close, no Sunday shift, and a schedule you can actually plan a life around — which, in this industry, is not a small thing. Where You'd Work We operate seven bakeries across the Birmingham area, and we're hiring for this role at more than one of them. Apply once — we'll talk through which location fits your commute and your strengths during the interview process.
