About Achilles Coffee From a single cart to five thriving cafés in San Diego County, Achilles Coffee is on an exciting growth trajectory. We're passionate about specialty coffee, community, teamwork, and creating exceptional guest experiences. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant General Manager to join our team. This person will work closely with the Store Manager to help lead daily operations, manage and develop the team, and support the continued growth of the café. This is a hands-on leadership role. The ideal candidate should be comfortable stepping into any area of the business, including the bar, customer service, team training, and kitchen operations. Why You'll Love This Role As Assistant General Manager, you'll play an important role in helping lead the café and supporting the Store Manager. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership, develop leadership skills, and help build systems that support the growth of Achilles Coffee. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on, leading a team, solving problems, and helping create an organized and successful work environment. Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Management Help manage and lead the café team during daily operations. Step in to oversee the café when the Store Manager is unavailable. Delegate tasks and ensure the team is staying productive and focused throughout the shift. Support, coach, and mentor baristas and kitchen team members. Help train new employees and ensure they understand Achilles Coffee standards and expectations. Assist with employee performance, coaching, and ongoing development. Hiring & Team Development Assist with interviewing and hiring new team members. Help identify staffing needs and support the development of a strong and reliable team. Participate in onboarding and training new employees. Operations & Systems Assist with opening and closing procedures and ensure operational standards are consistently followed. Help manage inventory, restocking, ordering, and daily operational needs. Assist with creating, improving, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Help build systems and processes that improve organization, efficiency, communication, and consistency. Be capable of taking on and managing responsibilities delegated by the Store Manager. Customer Experience Maintain high standards of hospitality and guest service. Address guest feedback and resolve service issues in real time. Ensure the café remains clean, organized, welcoming, and operating efficiently. Coffee & Kitchen Operations Maintain Achilles Coffee's standards for beverage quality and service. Be trained and capable of working in both the front of house and kitchen. Learn kitchen operations and be able to assist with training and supporting kitchen team members when needed. Be flexible and willing to step into different areas of the business based on operational needs. Sales & Business Support Assist with tracking daily sales and key operational metrics. Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, guest experience, and overall business performance. Support promotions, local events, seasonal menu launches, and other business initiatives when needed. What We're Looking For Previous leadership or management experience in a café, restaurant, or hospitality environment preferred. Strong experience working with specialty coffee and café operations. Experience leading, training, coaching, or supervising a team. Comfortable interviewing and helping hire new team members. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to create, follow, and help improve systems and Standard Operating Procedures. Comfortable using digital tools such as Square POS and Google Sheets. Willingness to learn and be trained in kitchen operations. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make decisions when needed. A reliable, adaptable, and hands-on leader who is willing to support the team wherever needed. Passion for specialty coffee, hospitality, teamwork, and creating memorable guest experiences.
Compensation & Perks Starting Pay:
$23 per hour
