Assistant Crew Lead — Sod Installation | Bayside Sod Inc. Learn it by doing it. Step up when it counts. Bayside Sod Inc. is growing fast, and we're looking for someone who's ready for more than a shovel and a schedule. The Assistant Crew Lead is the right hand on every install — the person the Crew Leader counts on to keep the job moving, and the person who takes the wheel when the Crew Leader isn't there. This is a hands-on install job. You'll be laying sod, prepping sites, and running equipment right alongside your crew. But you'll also be learning how a job gets run: how to read a work order, how to manage hours and materials, how to talk to a customer. If you want to be the guy who eventually owns the job, this is where that starts. What You'll Own Set the pace. You're on the tools every day. Your crew moves at the speed you work, so work like it matters. Back up your Crew Leader. Know the plan, know the site, know what's next. Your Crew Leader shouldn't have to ask twice. Step in when needed. When your Crew Leader is out or the job's big enough to need two leads, you're the one who takes it. You won't be thrown in cold — but you will be expected to be ready. Handle the truck. You'll drive a truck and trailer to and from job sites when the job calls for it. This isn't a daily route, but when we need you behind the wheel, we need you ready. Protect the equipment. Trucks, trailers, skid steers, and hand tools come back clean and ready for tomorrow. Every day. Represent Bayside. You're on a customer's property. How you carry yourself is how they judge the whole company. What You Bring Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (required — no exceptions for this role) Comfortable driving a truck and trailer, or willing to be trained High School diploma recommended One year in landscape, lawn service, construction, or similar outdoor work preferred — we'll train the right person without it Experience operating power equipment is a plus, not a requirement The physical ability to meet the demands of a year-round outdoor position in Florida — bending, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting 50+ lbs in heat, sun, and rain The ability to communicate clearly with your crew, your Crew Leader, and your customer The willingness to learn the parts of the job you haven't done yet The Job in Real Terms We'd rather tell you up front than have you find out in week two. ]. That means being at the shop, ready to work, before that. Long days, and they vary. We guarantee 40 hours a week, and most weeks run closer to 50. Some days end at 3:00, some end at 6:30. The day ends when the job is done and the equipment is put away — not at a set time on the clock. Saturdays happen. Weather and workload drive our schedule, and in our busy season we work some Saturdays. [
