Job Description

Head Chef / Kitchen Manager Englewoods on Dearborn is seeking an experienced, hands-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen team. This person will initially work closely with the owner to learn our menu, recipes, standards, kitchen flow and expectations. As trust and consistency are established, the Head Chef will gradually assume full responsibility for daily kitchen operations. This is a working chef position—not strictly an office or supervisory role. The Head Chef must be willing and able to work a station, lead by example and remain calm and organized during busy services. Responsibilities Work closely with the owner during the training and transition period Learn and consistently execute Englewoods' recipes, portions and presentation standards Lead and supervise the back-of-house team Coordinate grill, sauté, fry, salad, prep, dish and food-runner positions Create station assignments and ensure the kitchen is properly staffed for each service Manage prep lists and ensure all stations are fully stocked before opening Oversee food quality, ticket times, portion control and plate presentation Maintain a clean, organized and food-safe kitchen Train, coach and hold kitchen employees accountable Help manage scheduling, call-offs and shift coverage Monitor inventory, ordering, receiving and food storage Reduce food waste and help maintain appropriate food and labor costs Communicate clearly with the owner, front-of-house manager and service staff Help solve problems professionally without creating unnecessary drama Take increasing ownership of kitchen operations as the transition progresses Qualifications Previous experience as a Head Chef, Kitchen Manager, Sous Chef or strong Lead Line Cook Strong working knowledge of grill, sauté and fry stations Experience leading a busy restaurant kitchen Dependable, organized and able to remain calm under pressure Strong communication and leadership skills Comfortable giving direction and holding employees accountable Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, inventory and cost control Able to work evenings, weekends and our seasonal operating schedule ServSafe certification preferred The Right Person The right candidate is confident without being arrogant, dependable without needing constant supervision and willing to earn trust before making major changes. We want someone who respects what has already made Englewoods successful while helping us build a more organized, consistent and owner-independent kitchen. The goal is for this person to become the owner's trusted kitchen leader and eventually manage day-to-day back-of-house operations with minimal owner involvement.
Pay:
$48,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
