Background:
The Shift Lead supports daily production operations by assisting the Shift Supervisor in carrying out the day-to-day functions of the department. This role helps coordinate work activities, guide team members, and maintain workflow to ensure production goals, safety standards, and quality expectations are achieved. Working under the direction of the Shift Supervisor or other site leadership, the Shift Lead provides operational support, resolves routine issues, and serves as a point of contact for employees during the shift. This position promotes teamwork, accountability, and adherence to company policies, safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Responsibilities:
- Support the Shift Supervisor in carrying out daily production and operational activities.
- Guide and assist team members by resolving workflow issues and ensuring completion of assigned priorities to meet production and shipping goals.
- Coordinate daily tasks and ensure activities are completed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
- Communicate production status, issues, and updates to the Shift Supervisor and other departments.
- Verify materials, equipment, and documentation are prepared for production runs.
- Support employee training in proper work practices, safety procedures, and quality expectations.
- Identify and report safety or equipment concerns promptly to leadership.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and promote a safe, organized work environment.
- Serve as a resource for team members when leadership is not present, ensuring smooth operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or relevant technical training preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing, packaging, or production environment, with prior lead or team coordination experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Solid understanding of production processes, safety protocols, and quality inspection methods.
- Demonstrated ability to guide and support team members while maintaining focus on efficiency, safety, and product quality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across shifts and departments.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot workflow issues and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
- Able to stay organized and manage tasks effectively throughout the shift.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, or overtime, based on operational needs.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to frequently lift to 40 lbs., carry, or move heavy objects as required by production operations.
- Regular and consistent use of manual dexterity for handling materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods of time throughout the shift.
- May require occasional bending, reaching, or climbing depending on operational needs.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and packaging environment with exposure to moving machinery, equipment, and production lines.
- The facility environment may include varying temperatures, including heat, humidity, or cold depending on seasonal and operational conditions.
- Moderate to high noise levels are common; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes must be worn as required.
- This role requires a strong presence on the production floor to monitor operations and support team members throughout the shift.
- Work hours may include extended shifts, weekends, or overtime based on production demands.
