Weston, MA | Full-Time | Monday-Friday, approximately 10:00 AM-6:30 PM | Live-Out or Optional Live-In The Opportunity We are a warm, active family of five in Weston seeking an exceptional Senior Family Assistant & Household Manager to become the operational backbone of our home. We have three daughters, ages 12, 10 and 7, attending schools in Weston and Concord, as well as a young Labrador retriever. Both parents have demanding professional schedules, including regular business travel, and our children have active academic, athletic and extracurricular lives. We are looking for much more than traditional childcare or housekeeping. We want a proactive, highly capable and caring person who takes genuine pride in creating a calm, organized and well-run home—someone who sees what needs to happen, anticipates what's coming next and takes ownership of getting it done. The right person will be given significant autonomy, trust and resources. Our goal is for routine family and household matters to be anticipated and handled without requiring day-to-day direction from us. What Success Looks Like At the end of a successful weekday: Everyone has gotten where they need to go. The children are home, fed and settled. Dinner is prepared. Tomorrow's logistics are understood and prepared for. Backpacks, sports equipment and activity necessities are where they need to be. The dog has been appropriately cared for. Laundry and everyday household clutter are under control. Groceries and household essentials are stocked. The house feels calm and organized. Parents have not spent the day remotely coordinating routine household logistics.
In short:
You see what needs to happen and make it happen. Children & Family Logistics Our three daughters have busy and frequently changing schedules. Our 12-year-old attends school in Concord and participates in sports during all three seasons. She generally leaves home around 7:15 AM and returns to Weston around 6:00 PM during sports seasons, approximately 4:25 PM during non-sports periods, and 1:25 PM on Tuesdays. Our 10- and 7-year-olds attend Weston elementary schools. Their bus returns around 3:00 PM, although they participate in frequent after-school activities. Afternoons often involve multiple simultaneous activities, pickups and carpools.
The Household Manager will:
Own and maintain the master family calendar. Learn each child's school, sports and extracurricular schedule. Coordinate carpools, pickups, drop-offs and transportation. Drive children to and from activities using a family-provided vehicle. Coordinate with other parents and caregivers when appropriate. Monitor school communications for important dates, forms, events and schedule changes. Track permission slips, school requirements and routine administrative needs. Help children stay organized with backpacks, homework materials, sports equipment, instruments and activity supplies. Anticipate what each child will need for the following day. Provide warm, engaged childcare when children are home. Help establish a smooth afternoon and evening rhythm. We are not looking for someone to complete our children's responsibilities for them. As they grow, we want to foster independence and accountability while ensuring that the household systems around them work. Household Management & Organization We have a professional cleaning team that comes weekly. This is not a traditional housecleaning position. Instead, this person will own the organization and daily functioning of the household between professional cleanings.
Responsibilities include:
Daily household reset and general tidying. Keep common areas organized and belongings returned to their appropriate places. Manage family laundry, including folding and putting away. Keep children's closets, clothing and seasonal items organized. Maintain an orderly mudroom, including backpacks, shoes, coats and sports equipment. Organize pantry, refrigerator, closets and household storage. Unpack deliveries and manage packages and returns. Coordinate dry cleaning and routine errands. Monitor household supplies and proactively replenish them. Coordinate household vendors, deliveries and service appointments. Work with our weekly cleaning team, dog walkers and other household providers. Notice household problems and take initiative to solve them. The expectation is not perfection. The goal is that the home consistently feels functional, cared for and under control. Food, Groceries & Cooking This person will take substantial ownership of weekday food logistics, including: Plan simple, healthy family meals. Maintain the household grocery list. Grocery shop and/or manage grocery delivery. Keep the refrigerator, freezer and pantry appropriately stocked. Prepare family dinner. Prepare or organize food needed for children's lunches and activities. Anticipate food needs for busy weeks and weekends. Keep food-storage areas organized and remove expired items. Clean and reset the kitchen following meal preparation. Our goal is generally to have dinner prepared and the household transitioning smoothly into the evening before the Household Manager leaves. Strong family cooking skills are important; gourmet cooking is not required. Dog Management We have a young Labrador who is an important member of our family. The Household Manager will help ensure that her needs are reliably met, including: Coordinate dog walkers and other pet-care providers. Feeding and routine care as needed. Provide exercise/play when appropriate. Reinforce established training and household routines. Coordinate veterinary, grooming, training and daycare appointments. Maintain dog food and supplies. Identify gaps in her schedule and proactively arrange appropriate coverage. This person does not need to personally provide all of the dog's exercise or training. We want someone who takes responsibility for making sure the overall system works. Weekend & Travel Preparation Our family skis most weekends during the winter and travels regularly. There is currently no requirement to work weekends or travel with the family. Instead, the Household Manager will help make departures and returns substantially easier by: Helping pack children's clothing and necessities. Organizing ski clothing and equipment. Ensuring helmets, boots, gloves and other gear are accounted for. Preparing snacks and supplies. Helping load and prepare the family vehicle. Unpacking and reorganizing belongings after trips. Managing laundry and equipment following weekends away. Resetting the household for the upcoming week. The goal is for parents to be able to finish work on Friday and leave with the family without spending several hours assembling everything needed for the weekend. A Note About Ownership This is an unusually high-autonomy household role. Both parents have demanding professional responsibilities and periodically travel for work. We are therefore looking for someone who can become the family's trusted day-to-day household operator, rather than someone who needs a daily task list. We expect this person to learn our family's routines, preferences, schedules and standards and, over time, independently anticipate what needs to happen next. If a child suddenly needs a different pickup, groceries are running low, the dog walker cancels, ski equipment needs to be ready for Friday, a school form is due tomorrow or something in the household isn't working, our ideal person sees the issue and handles it. We expect routine decisions to be made independently. Parents should generally only need to be contacted when a decision is consequential, unusual, safety-related or genuinely requires parental judgment. We want to provide significant autonomy, trust and resources to make that possible. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is: Exceptionally organized and reliable. Highly proactive and anticipatory. Warm and genuinely enjoys children. Comfortable working with both elementary-aged children and adolescents. Calm when schedules change or several things happen at once. An excellent communicator. Comfortable managing a complicated family calendar. A capable family cook. Comfortable driving children extensively. Comfortable with dogs. Naturally tidy and highly organized. Resourceful and comfortable solving problems independently. Able to balance warmth with appropriate expectations and boundaries for children. Discreet and respectful of family privacy. Comfortable receiving significant responsibility and autonomy. Interested in a long-term position and becoming a trusted part of a family's support system. Previous experience as a family assistant, household manager, nanny/family assistant, estate assistant or similar high-responsibility private household role is strongly preferred. A safe driving record, authorization to work in the United States and excellent professional references are required. Schedule Monday-Friday, approximately 10:00 AM-6:30 PM Approximately 42.5 guaranteed hours per week. There may be some flexibility in exact hours depending on the candidate and evolving family needs. There are currently no required weekends and no required family travel. Compensation & Benefits $45-$50/hour depending on experience, with guaranteed full-time hours. Expected annual cash compensation is approximately $100,000+ for an experienced candidate, depending on hourly rate and applicable overtime. The compensation package will also include: Paid vacation Paid holidays Paid sick time Year-end bonus opportunity Family vehicle provided for work-related driving Long-term stability for the right candidate Specific benefits and employment terms will be discussed as part of the hiring process. Optional Private Live-In Accommodation For an exceptional candidate interested in a live-in arrangement, we may be able to provide a private, detached guest house on our property as part of the overall package. The guest house is completely separate from the main residence and includes: Private entrance Bedroom Living room Full bathroom Partial kitchen Independent systems from the main residence Live-in is entirely optional. We are equally interested in outstanding live-out candidates and will structure compensation and housing appropriately depending on the arrangement. About Our Family We are a close family and genuinely enjoy being together. We have demanding careers, but our children and family life are extraordinarily important to us. We aren't looking to outsource being parents. We are looking for an exceptional person who can take ownership of the logistics surrounding family life so that when we are together, we can spend more of that time actually being a family. We value kindness, initiative, humor, reliability, good judgment and treating people with respect. We want the person in this role to feel trusted, appreciated and empowered to make a meaningful difference in our family's daily life. For the right person, we hope this becomes a highly valued, trusted and long-term role in our household.
