About the Opportunity Mr. Toad's Pottery is looking for our next Studio Manager, but we're doing things a little differently. Rather than hiring someone and immediately handing them the keys, we're looking for an experienced, people-focused leader to join our LaVale studio through our Studio Manager in Training program . You'll begin by learning Mr. Toad's from the ground up: our guests, our team, our creative experiences, our systems, and what makes our studio special. As you demonstrate proficiency, you'll progressively take on greater leadership and management responsibility, with the goal of becoming the Studio Manager of our LaVale location. This isn't an entry-level management position, and you don't need to be an artist or know anything about pottery to apply. We're much more interested in finding someone who knows how to lead people, develop a team, solve problems, drive results, and create an exceptional customer experience. We'll teach you the pottery part! What You'll Be Training to Own As you progress through our management training program, you'll learn to take responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the studio, including: Leading, coaching, motivating, and developing our studio team Creating a culture where expectations are clear and team members are supported and held accountable Identifying training gaps and making sure employees have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed Conducting employee check-ins, one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and coaching conversations Managing scheduling and staffing to balance excellent guest service with responsible labor costs Monitoring studio sales and working with the team to achieve revenue and performance goals Looking for opportunities to increase sales, improve the guest experience, and strengthen studio operations Overseeing daily studio operations, opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and POS systems Handling customer concerns and empowering team members to deliver exceptional service Maintaining high standards for cleanliness, organization, presentation, safety, and overall studio readiness Supporting hiring, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new team members Monitoring inventory and communicating purchasing and supply needs Ensuring company policies, procedures, and operational systems are consistently followed Working collaboratively with our Creative Director to successfully execute classes, events, seasonal collections, promotions, and new studio initiatives Recognizing problems before they become big problems, and taking ownership of solving them Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys managing people. You may be a great fit if you: Have previous leadership, supervisory, assistant management, or management experience Have experience in retail, hospitality, restaurants, entertainment, attractions, or another customer-facing business Enjoy coaching and developing employees Can have difficult conversations respectfully and confidently when necessary Are comfortable setting expectations and holding people accountable Are organized and able to follow through without needing constant reminders Can prioritize when several things need attention at once Look for solutions rather than simply reporting problems Are comfortable working with sales goals, labor targets, schedules, and other business performance metrics Can balance the needs of the customer, the employee, and the business when making decisions Communicate clearly and professionally Are comfortable learning new technology and POS/business systems Can remain calm and make sound decisions when the studio gets busy Are willing to jump in alongside your team when needed, leadership at Mr. Toad's isn't done from an office Are available to work a flexible full-time schedule that includes some evenings and weekends Artistic or pottery experience is NOT required. We can teach you our creative processes. We're looking for the right leader. How the Manager-in-Training Program Works This is a paid, competency-based management development position . You'll start by working alongside our studio team and learning the business from the ground up. As you demonstrate proficiency, you'll move through progressive phases of management training and take on increasing responsibility. Training will include areas such as: Learn the Studio → Lead the Team → Manage the Business → Studio Manager Advancement is based on demonstrated competency and leadership readiness rather than simply time in the position. Our goal is to give our future Studio Manager the knowledge, confidence, authority, and understanding of the team needed to successfully lead the LaVale studio. Compensation & Growth Base pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour, plus tips The position begins at the Manager-in-Training rate, with opportunities for competency-based pay increases as training phases are successfully completed. Candidates who successfully complete the management development program and demonstrate readiness for full responsibility may be offered promotion to Studio Manager at the corresponding management rate.
