Job Description:
The cafeteria manager will supervise and administer the school food service program, serve food items to students and/or school personnel, and maintain food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED Experience as a full-time school food service assistant, Person in Charge, or Manager, or experience in cooking, food management, and kitchen operation for a private or public organization Complete Garrett County School Food Service Training Programs, including ServSafe Demonstrate aptitude for and interest in work to be performed Be able to utilize modern electronic forms of communication and electronic inventory to complete the essential job functions. Successful completion of required criminal, drug, and tuberculosis screenings Provide proof of United States citizenship or legal resident alien status Ability to perform basic math, read, and follow instructions Ability to understand multi-step written and oral instructions Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (i.e., staff, administration, prospective employees, colleges and universities, businesses, general public, community agencies, etc.) Demonstrated attention to detail Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment Ability to work on multiple and concurrent tasks while experiencing frequent interruptions Ability to work independently and as a team member to meet intensive deadlines. Ability to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situations Ability to work irregular hours, as necessary Ability to stand, sit, walk, feel, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, push, pull, and carry Ability to lift moderately heavy objects averaging 50-75 lbs. RESPONSIBILITIES

The cafeteria manager will:
Maintain a daily lunch tally, receipts, deposits, and disbursements and keep accurate financial records; Open the kitchen, set up equipment, and prepare the cafeteria to serve for the day Plan, coordinate, assign, oversee, and participate as required in the preparation, cooking and serving of food Maintain consistency in food preparation and service to students and staff Train personnel in operational procedures Order food, paper, and other supplies as needed through the electronic inventory system or vendor Supervise the cleaning of the cafeteria, equipment, small wares, etc. as required Prepare and maintain accurate food production records Prepare foods according to USDA guidelines for the Child Nutrition Program Identify problems and make appropriate changes when necessary Compile bills, day-end reports, deposit slips, etc., and file accordingly in an accurate manner Ensure the proper storage of food and supplies Attends regularly scheduled manager meetings and training Reports equipment problems accordingly Promote the school meal program to increase participation Communicate effectively with central office staff, school administrators and staff, and cafeteria employees Be responsible for complete, accurate, and timely reports and records required to be submitted to the County School Food Authority Establish a safety-conscious staff, maintain adherence to high health standards as set forth by the Health Department, coordinate the duties and assignments of the cafeteria workers and insure that all employees are well groomed and neat in appearance Maintain set standards of food portion control Use proper serving techniques Assist in keeping food preparation areas in a clean and orderly manner Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability and ownership, and positive and professional demeanor.
