Job Description
General Manager Wawonowin Country Club — Champion, Michigan Wawonowin Country Club is seeking a year-round General Manager to provide leadership, management, and oversight of our semi-private golf club in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The General Manager reports to the Club President and is responsible for overall Club operations, employees, financial performance, membership administration, communications, and coordination among the Pro Shop, grounds, clubhouse, food and beverage, and event operations. The position has an expected annual schedule of approximately 1,900 hours , with heavier hours during the May-October golf season and a reduced off-season schedule. Primary Responsibilities Provide overall leadership and management oversight of Club operations. Hire, train, supervise, support, and evaluate department managers and employees; establish goals and maintain appropriate personnel and training documentation. Oversee Pro Shop, golf, food and beverage, clubhouse, event, and grounds operations, working with department managers and the Golf Course Superintendent. Monitor departmental financial results, labor, purchasing, inventory, and operating controls; work with the Finance Manager on Club financial operations and annual budgeting. Oversee membership administration, including new member applications, member records in ForeUP, and member and customer communications. Maintain and coordinate Club communications, including the website, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media. Manage vendor relationships and remain familiar with Club leases, contracts, purchase agreements, and other significant commitments; negotiate as appropriate. Work with the Board of Directors to provide recommendations and insight on long-range planning, the direction of the Club, capital improvements, and Club policies. Prepare and present regular General Manager reports to the Board of Directors and attend Board meetings, designated committee meetings, and the Annual Club Meeting. Represent Wawonowin Country Club with appropriate golf organizations, including UPGA and UPGLA meetings as required. Perform other responsibilities reasonably associated with management of the Club as directed by the Club President. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business or a related field preferred; or a minimum of three years of relevant business and management experience. Demonstrated experience managing employees and teams. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and adapt as operational needs change. Experience with budgeting, financial management, purchasing, inventory, and cost controls. Experience with events and food and beverage operations. Experience managing a business or organization with multiple revenue streams preferred. Familiarity with golf and private-club operations preferred. Strong computer skills; ForeUP, point-of-sale, spreadsheet (Excel), and related business-system experience preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule during the golf season, including some evenings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and special events. Compensation & Benefits $60,000-$68,000 annual salary, based on experience and qualifications. Year-round salaried position with an expected annual schedule of approximately 1,900 hours. 80 hours of paid time off after completion of the initial 1,900 hours of employment, generally taken during the off-season unless otherwise approved by the Club President.
