Bar Manager / Front of House Manager Modern Greek Eatery & Bar | East Lansing / MSU About the Opportunity Be part of the opening team for an exciting new bar and restaurant concept in the heart of the Michigan State University market. Modern Greek Eatery & Bar is bringing together fresh, modern Greek food, a full-service bar, craft cocktails, draft beer, and an energetic social atmosphere in one of the most exciting restaurant and nightlife markets in the area. We are looking for an experienced, energetic Bar Manager / Front of House Manager who wants more than simply managing shifts. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in launching a new bar, building the FOH team and helping establish the service culture and guest experience from day one. The ideal candidate understands both sides of the business: creating a fun, high-energy bar atmosphere while maintaining strong operational standards, excellent hospitality, responsible alcohol service and cost controls. What You'll Do Lead the bar and entire Front of House operation , including bartenders, servers, hosts and support staff Help recruit, hire, train and develop a strong opening FOH team Help establish the bar's service standards, operating procedures and opening/closing systems Create an energetic, welcoming atmosphere appropriate for the MSU and East Lansing market Oversee day-to-day bar operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash controls and shift management Work with ownership on the beverage program, including cocktails, beer, wine, spirits and non-alcoholic offerings Train bartenders on recipes, presentation, speed of service, responsible alcohol service and guest interaction Maintain excellent hospitality and service standards throughout the restaurant Manage beverage inventory, ordering, receiving, stock levels and regular inventory counts Monitor liquor, beer and wine costs and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve profitability Manage scheduling and staffing levels based on expected business volume Lead the team during busy nights, MSU events, game days and other high-volume periods Resolve guest concerns professionally and quickly Maintain compliance with alcohol-service requirements, food safety standards and company policies Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth coordination between food and beverage service Use Toast POS for daily operations, reporting and cash reconciliation Help develop promotions, special events and ideas that build repeat business and establish Modern Greek as a destination in the MSU market What We're Looking For Previous Bar Manager, FOH Manager, Assistant General Manager or similar hospitality leadership experience Strong hands-on bar experience and knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer and beverage service Experience managing bartenders, servers and other FOH employees Comfortable operating in a high-volume, energetic bar and restaurant environment Strong understanding of beverage inventory, liquor cost, portion control and loss prevention Experience recruiting, interviewing, training and developing hospitality employees Experience with scheduling, labor management and shift leadership Familiarity with Toast POS or similar restaurant POS systems Understanding of restaurant financial fundamentals, including labor costs, beverage costs, inventory and P&L performance Strong knowledge of responsible alcohol service and food safety practices Excellent communication and problem-solving skills Ability to remain organized and professional during extremely busy periods Availability for evenings, weekends, MSU game days and other high-volume events The Person We're Looking For We're looking for someone who brings energy, leadership and personality to the operation. You should be comfortable jumping behind the bar when needed, coaching a bartender during a busy shift, talking with guests, solving operational problems and keeping the entire FOH team moving in the same direction. Most importantly, we're looking for someone excited about building something new . This isn't simply stepping into an established restaurant and maintaining someone else's system.
