Operations Management Trainee (OMT)
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Please provide a current resume when applying. Job Summary The Operations Management Trainee (OMT) role is a developmental leadership position designed to build future operational leaders. This position supports and influences day-to-day production and operational performance through the application of independent judgment, data-driven analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. The OMT partners with plant leadership to drive improvements in safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance while developing the foundational leadership skills necessary for future supervisory and management roles. This position offers broad exposure to plant operations, providing trainees the opportunity to learn all aspects of the business and gain hands-on experience across multiple departments. Candidates should understand that this role is designed to teach the fundamentals of plant operations. Trainees will spend time learning various functions throughout the facility, including Receiving, Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and other operational areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Analyze operational performance metrics and identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities. Recommend and help implement process improvements related to safety, quality, yield, and efficiency. Exercise independent judgment when troubleshooting operational issues and recommending solutions. Coordinate cross-functional initiatives with Human Resources, Maintenance, FSQA, Engineering, and Accounting to support operational objectives. Lead or direct teams in assigned situations, including project leadership, line oversight, and operational coverage. Support decision-making by providing insights and recommendations to supervisors and managers. Monitor compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and regulatory standards. Participate in planning and execution of operational priorities, including staffing, production flow, and resource allocation. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency gains, waste reduction, and cost savings. Apply leadership principles to influence team performance, engagement, and accountability. Develop working knowledge of equipment, processes, systems, and production operations.
Education and Experience Required:
Associate's degree, technical degree, or higher in a related field; OR Equivalent practical experience (minimum one year).
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree.
Relevant Fields of Study Include:
Operations Management Agriculture Animal Science Poultry Science Food Science Manufacturing Management Related disciplines Candidates should demonstrate exposure through internships, academic projects, hands-on work experience, or leadership activities in manufacturing, agriculture, food production, live operations, or related operational environments. Special Job Competencies Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel (SAP or related systems preferred). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Leadership potential and the ability to influence others without direct authority. Adaptability and willingness to learn multiple functions within the operation. Basic understanding of safety and quality systems preferred. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have direct reports; however, it is expected to exercise leadership responsibilities by: Directing team members as needed. Coordinating workflow and operational activities. Supporting real-time operational decisions. Leading projects, teams, and production processes.
