Job Description

Position Summary The Food Service Manager provides leadership for the daily operation of the City Mission kitchen and dining services, ensuring that nutritious, safe, and welcoming meals are prepared and served to guests, residents, volunteers, staff, and community partners. This position reflects the Mission's commitment to serving others with the love, grace, and compassion of Jesus Christ through excellence in hospitality and stewardship. The Food Service Manager builds a positive team culture by leading employees, interns, and volunteers with integrity, encouragement, accountability, and servant leadership. This position plays an important role in creating an environment where every meal demonstrates dignity, hope, and Christian hospitality. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily operation of the Mission kitchen and dining room.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and develop kitchen employees, interns, and volunteers.
  • Foster a Christ-centered culture that reflects the Mission's values of compassion, grace, respect, teamwork, and servant leadership.
  • Build a positive, encouraging, and accountable team environment where people can grow personally and professionally.
  • Plan nutritious, cost-effective menus utilizing donated, purchased, and USDA food products.
  • Maintain food inventory and order supplies while practicing excellent stewardship of Mission resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Maintain sanitation standards throughout the kitchen, storage, and dining areas.
  • Coordinate meal preparation for regular services, special events, holidays, and community functions.
  • Develop kitchen schedules that ensure appropriate staffing and volunteer coverage.
  • Train staff and volunteers in food safety, sanitation, equipment operation, and kitchen procedures.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to support guests, residential programs, and organizational events.
  • Maintain required records related to inventory, food temperatures, cleaning schedules, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in department planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for City Mission with guests, donors, volunteers, churches, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Mission. QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous food service leadership or kitchen management experience.
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and food safety practices.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate employees and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain standing for extended periods.
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Preferred
  • ServSafe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience in nonprofit, ministry, institutional, school, or healthcare food service.
  • Experience supervising volunteers or workforce development participants.
  • Experience working in a ministry or recovery environment.

Working ConditionsThis position works in a commercial kitchen environment serving individuals experiencing homelessness, recovery, and crisis. The Food Service Manager regularly interacts with employees, volunteers, guests, interns, donors, churches, and community partners while maintaining a welcoming, professional, and Christ-centered atmosphere
Pay:
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
