Job Description

Rijsttafel is a new fast casual Southeast Asian kitchen opening in Mount Vernon. We will serve build-your-own rice bowls, Banh Mi sandwiches, rice noodle salads, Gado Gado, steamed buns, and other fresh, flavorful menu items in a food hall setting. We are hiring a Restaurant Manager to help lead our opening team and build strong daily systems from the beginning. Position Overview The Restaurant Manager will help oversee daily operations, train team members, maintain food quality, support guest service, and keep the restaurant clean, organized, and running smoothly. This is a hands-on position. The manager should be comfortable jumping in wherever needed, including food prep, cooking, assembling orders, cashiering, cleaning, and helping guests. This is not a desk job. The right person will be dependable, calm under pressure, organized, and able to lead a small team with clear expectations. Responsibilities Help open and close the restaurant Lead shifts and keep daily operations moving smoothly Prep ingredients and follow recipes accurately Cook and assemble orders according to Rijsttafel standards Train team members on recipes, service, cleaning, and procedures Provide friendly counter service and handle guest concerns professionally Use the POS system to take orders and check out guests Monitor food quality, portioning, speed, and presentation Maintain food safety and sanitation standards Keep the line, prep area, storage areas, and dining/service areas clean and organized Help manage prep lists, restocking, and basic inventory Communicate supply needs, maintenance issues, staffing concerns, and operational problems to ownership Set a strong example for reliability, teamwork, cleanliness, and guest service What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will be: Reliable and punctual Comfortable leading a small team Able to stay calm and focused during busy periods Willing to cook, prep, serve guests, cashier, clean, and support the team Organized and able to follow checklists and procedures Friendly and professional with guests and coworkers Comfortable giving clear direction to staff Food safety-minded Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 pounds Honest, teachable, and accountable Experience Restaurant, food service, kitchen, shift lead, assistant manager, or management experience is strongly preferred. Experience in fast casual, quick service, food hall, café, catering, or counter-service restaurants is helpful. ServSafe or food safety certification is a plus, but not required if the candidate is willing to obtain certification. Schedule This position will require availability during opening hours, peak meal periods, and weekends. Exact schedule will be discussed during the interview.
Pay:
$19.00 - $22.00 per hour
