At El Gaucho Portland, we are looking for a Captain who brings warmth to the table, creates genuine connections, and makes every guest feel like the evening was made just for them. Wine and spirits knowledge is a must for this role, and a passion for sharing that knowledge with both guests and team members is what sets the right candidate apart. Wine Captain and Spirits Captain (aka bar manager) roles available if qualified.
ResponsibilitiesInvest in the growth and development of those around you through mentorship, hands on coaching, and a genuine commitment to building a strong, knowledgeable team. You will anticipate guest needs and deliver personalized, high touch fine dining experiences, execute tableside preparations with precision and showmanship, and uphold fine dining standards including coursed service, etiquette, and seamless team coordination. You will stay composed under pressure and guide team performance in real time.
QualificationsPrevious fine dining experience is required, along with wine and spirits certification or equivalent hands-on experience. We are looking for someone with a strong leadership presence and a natural ability to mentor, develop, and inspire a team, a genuine guest first mentality, and clear, confident communication skills. A commitment to upholding El Gaucho Portland's standards and vision is essential.
Compensation and BenefitsStarting at $75,000 annually, with growth potential based on experience. A background check will be conducted prior to extending an offer.
Medical and dental insurance, voluntary vision coverage, 401k with employer match (after one year of service), 10 days PTO year one (subject to accrual), in house dining account, family meals, ongoing professional education and development, Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance, and Sundays and Mondays off excluding special events.
