Position Summary The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing all aspects of Bakery Department operations, including production, merchandising, customer service, inventory management, food safety compliance, and associate development. This position helps ensure high-quality bakery products, attractive displays, operational excellence, and an exceptional customer experience while contributing to department sales and profitability goals. Key Responsibilities Department Operations Assist in managing the daily operations of the Bakery Department. Ensure bakery products are prepared, packaged, labeled, and displayed according to company standards. Monitor product quality, freshness, and availability throughout the day. Assist with production planning to maintain proper inventory levels and minimize waste. Support the execution of promotional programs, seasonal merchandising, and special events. Customer Service Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture. Assist customers with product selection, custom orders, and special requests. Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally. Provide product knowledge and recommendations to enhance the customer experience. Support efforts to increase sales through suggestive selling and customer engagement. Leadership & Team Development Assist with training, coaching, and developing Bakery associates. Provide daily direction and support to department team members. Promote teamwork, accountability, and high performance standards. Support scheduling and workload distribution to meet operational needs. Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Bakery Manager. Merchandising & Inventory Management Ensure bakery displays are fully stocked, visually appealing, and maintained according to company standards. Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering products and supplies. Help manage shrink through proper production planning, rotation, and inventory control. Verify pricing, signage, and merchandising execution throughout the department. Support department initiatives designed to drive sales and profitability. Food Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements. Monitor proper handling, storage, dating, and labeling of bakery products. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Promote adherence to company policies and operational procedures. Support department readiness for inspections and audits. Financial Performance Assist in achieving department sales, margin, labor, and shrink goals. Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Support productivity initiatives and efficient labor utilization. Help control expenses through effective inventory and production management. Contribute to overall department profitability through strong execution and accountability. Qualifications Previous bakery, food service, retail, or supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of bakery operations, merchandising, and food safety practices preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to lead, motivate, and develop associates. Strong organizational and time management abilities. Basic inventory management and computer skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Ability to lift and move products consistent with department requirements. Ability to work around bakery equipment and varying temperature conditions. Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
