Job Description
Restaurant Manager The Original Black's Barbecue — New Braunfels, TexasFull-Time | Salaried | Reports to the General Manager The Original Black's Barbecue is the oldest barbecue restaurant in Texas still owned by the same family. Since 1932, four generations of the Black family have protected the same standards: honest work, true hospitality, quality without shortcuts and respect for every person who walks through the door. We are hiring a Restaurant Manager to join the leadership team at our New Braunfels restaurant. You will report to the General Manager and work alongside two other Restaurant Managers. This is not a "keep the restaurant running" position. We want a leader who will make the restaurant better—one shift, one employee and one guest at a time. What This Job Really Is This is a hands-on floor-leadership position. When you are the Manager on Duty, you are responsible for the restaurant: the guests, the team, the food, the speed, the cleanliness, the safety and the execution of the shift. You will coach employees, solve problems, check standards, talk with guests and step into the operation when the team needs help. If a table needs cleaning, a guest needs attention or the line needs help, you do not walk past it because you are "the manager." Nothing that serves the guest or supports the team is beneath you. What You Will Own Leading organized, excellent shifts in a high-volume restaurant Guest hospitality and recovery when something goes wrong Food quality, accuracy and speed of service Food safety, cleanliness and organization Training, coaching and employee accountability Productive use of labor during assigned shifts Opening, closing and cash-handling controls Waste, inventory and basic cost awareness Clear communication with the GM and fellow managers Developing team members into future leaders Following through on checklists, systems and commitments Each Restaurant Manager will also own one or more areas of the business—such as training, hospitality, cleanliness, food safety, inventory or team development. You will be given real responsibility. You will be held accountable for how you handle it. How We Expect You to Lead We believe high care and high accountability belong together. The right manager can uphold demanding standards without yelling, humiliating people or creating fear. You can be direct without being disrespectful. You can care about employees while still addressing poor performance. You will win here if you: Bring calm urgency to busy shifts Take responsibility instead of making excuses Notice details other people walk past Coach problems when you see them Give and receive direct, respectful feedback Follow systems without needing to be chased Admit mistakes and correct them Develop people instead of merely directing them Protect the culture when the GM is present and when the GM is not We do not expect you to know everything on your first day. We do expect humility, discipline, steady improvement and follow-through. This Is Probably Not the Right Job for You If You believe being a manager means doing less hands-on work You lead through fear, sarcasm or humiliation You avoid difficult conversations and allow standards to drift You create gossip, drama or division You blame staffing, ownership or guests whenever results fall short You want authority but become defensive when held accountable You are looking for a temporary stop rather than a place to build We mean that respectfully. Clarity saves everyone time. Experience and Availability We are looking for someone who has successfully led people in a busy restaurant, hospitality or service environment. A degree is not required, and an impressive title is not enough. We care about what you have led, what you have improved and how people experienced your leadership. This position requires regular availability during evenings, weekends, holidays and the restaurant's busiest periods. You must have or be able to obtain a Texas Certified Food Manager credential. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary (based on experience) PTO + benefits Stable, growing brand with a long runway Real leadership opportunity for the right person You will be joining a stable, growing, family-owned company. Strong Restaurant Managers can earn greater responsibility as the company grows. How to Apply Apply through Indeed with a current résumé. Applicants selected for the next step will receive a short questionnaire before interviews begin. Before employment, we will conduct a job-related background review, pre-employment drug screen and employment-eligibility verification. The Original Black's Barbecue is an equal-opportunity employer. Every day, we protect a standard handed down through four generations—and build it for the fifth. If that sounds like work worth doing, we would like to meet you.
