JOB TITLE
School Nutrition 6-Hour Manager Trainee
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR
School Nutrition Manager
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The position is responsible for the preparation and service of school meals and sanitation of the meal preparation and service areas. The position will be trained in and will assist the manager and shift manager with various manager reports and functions. The position works 178 days per year, coinciding with the school instructional calendar.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepares, cooks and serves meats, breads, vegetables and other food in accordance with the menu. Prepares and serves fruits, desserts, salads, soups and other foods. Trains and rotates through the full range of food services. Washes pots, pans, kettles and other cooking utensils. Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens and other food service and mechanical equipment. Cleans work surfaces, food preparation and service areas. Sweeps, mops and performs other clean-up duties as assigned. Assists in estimating and ordering food supplies. Receives and stocks food supplies. Maintains sanitary conditions. Serves as cashier as needed. Trains in various management functions and reports and will then assist the manager and assistant manager with those functions and reports. Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalency and 2-3 years school nutrition experience, advanced degree in Food/Nutrition, or commensurate management experience in Restaurant Food Service. Certificate through the School Nutrition Association is expected within six months of hire date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is medium work, requiring the ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly in order to move objects/equipment. Work requires standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling and repetitive motions. Visual acuity is required to make use of measuring devices, operate machines, and determine accuracy and thoroughness of work. Workers may be subjected to extreme heat, noise, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
