Job Description

Courtyard Madison East Assistant General Manager Position Summary The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing daily hotel operations at Courtyard Madison East. This role is responsible for helping lead the hotel team, delivering excellent guest service, driving operational performance, maintaining brand standards, and supporting profitability. The Assistant General Manager serves as a hands-on leader across departments and acts as the Manager on Duty when needed. Key Responsibilities Operations Leadership Support the General Manager in managing day-to-day hotel operations. Ensure all departments operate efficiently, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and Sales support. Serve as Manager on Duty and respond to guest, employee, and operational needs. Monitor hotel performance, guest satisfaction, cleanliness, service quality, and brand compliance. Assist with implementing Marriott/Courtyard brand standards, policies, and procedures. Guest Service Lead by example in delivering professional, friendly, and attentive service. Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally. Review guest feedback, online reviews, and service scores to identify improvement opportunities. Support a service culture focused on guest satisfaction and loyalty. Team Leadership Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and evaluating team members. Provide daily direction and support to department supervisors and hourly associates. Help manage schedules, labor costs, attendance, and performance expectations. Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. Ensure employees follow company policies, safety standards, and brand expectations. Financial & Administrative Support Assist the General Manager with budgeting, forecasting, expense control, and revenue goals. Monitor labor, supplies, inventory, and operating costs. Support cash handling, reporting, purchasing, payroll review, and invoice processing. Help identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Sales & Revenue Support Partner with the General Manager and sales team to support occupancy, rate, and revenue goals. Assist with local business relationships, group needs, and guest retention efforts. Support front desk upselling, loyalty enrollment, and revenue initiatives. Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with company policies, Marriott brand standards, local regulations, and safety requirements. Support emergency procedures, security protocols, and property inspections. Maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning hotel environment for guests and employees. Qualifications Previous hotel leadership experience required; Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, Front Office Manager, or similar role preferred. Marriott or Courtyard brand experience strongly preferred. Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Experience with hotel systems, guest service platforms, scheduling, and basic financial reporting preferred. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or business degree preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds as needed. Ability to respond quickly to guest and operational needs.
