Job Description

What You Will Do:
The Dietetic Assistant performs a variety of operational and clerical tasks to assure optimal nutritional care to patients, and acts as a communication link between hospital patients, nursing units and the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
Responsibilities:
Works with EMR (electronic medical record) and hospital room service system to get the most recent diet information on each patient. Monitors EMR to make sure all food allergy information has entered the hospital room service system. Processes new diets and chages as required in a timely manner Promptly answers/responds to phone calls/voice mail in order to accurately assist the caller Guides patients on menu selection with regards to dietary restrictions Able to track patient's carbohydrate counts and sodium levels based on prescribed dietary restrictions Ensures accuracy of room trays by checking/read back selections to patients Updates pertienent menu and noursihment orders with care and accuracy Is able to answer general questions on approved diets Notifies the Clinical Dietitian of patients who have diet questions and/or who are not following prescribed diet. Clarifies diet orders using the dietitian or nursing staff if not clearly understood. Able to utilize Microsoft Excel software Able to perform data entry tasks as assigned Able to complete basic food preparatory tasks as assigned
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED preferred 2-4 years of relevant work experience Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite This position requires candidates to be at least 16 years old based on the duties involved and hospital safety policies
