Job Description

The Arizona Pioneers' Home, a State of Arizona agency, is searching for a Food Service Supervisor to round out its current food service staff. This position works under Dietary Manager, exercising judgment in accordance with established policies and procedures. Has the authority to assign work and recommendations on personnel actions. Functions as a working supervisor, participates in and supervises subordinate personnel in the preparation and serving of food and cleaning of equipment, utensils, and food service areas as well as performing simple cooking tasks. Work product consists of a functioning work unit; may be involved in work schedules; food prepared for cooking or serving; food properly portioned following safety and sanitation requirements, written records and reports. Responsible for direction of work, worker instructions and quality of product for the work area.
Job Duties:
Perform defined work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by the Dietary Manager. Work routines may include dishwashing, pot and pan washing, cleaning, preparing foods for tray line, working on tray line, nourishment preparation and serving the dining room. Instructs, guides, and counsels subordinate level workers in carrying out tasks Formulates plans for improvement. Follows established reporting procedures for informing supervisor of supply or equipment needs and any damaged or loose fixtures, flooring, or tiling requiring replacement or repair Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties and defined infection control procedures. Be knowledgable of Federal, State, and facility's rules and regulations, policies and procedures. Attend scheduled department meetings. Attend in-service educatonal programs Reviews menus for the next day, daily count of residents, special activities, diet orders; determines what prep needs to be done. Inspects food service lines, observes and controls food portioning. Inspects food personnel reporting for work to ensure personal hygiene and proper attire Preparation of a variety of foods including desserts, salads and sandwiches. Perform defined work routines using various dietary utensils, supplies and equipment as assigned by kitchen management. Work routines may include dishwashing, pot and pan washing, cleaning and preparing foods for the steam table/serving area as requested. Serving residents and staff as needed Knowledgable of policies and procedures for receiving supplies and products. Confers with other supervisors as well as Kitchen Manager in presenting and resolving difficult problems, conflicts and questions. Collaborating with other staff and Mamagement in order to make decisions and take action Other duties as assigned as related to the position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge:
The principles and practices of leadership and work management, materials, methods, and practices of institutional food service; applicable sanitation and carrying out of safety codes, rules and regulations; cleaning materials, methods and techniques, portion control and utensils used to serve food; food textures and consistencies as related to residents diets and altered foods based on diet orders. Basic arithmetic computation methods, Policies and procedures established for the work unit
Skills:
Preparing food products with minimal waste; using and operating institutional food service equipment. Serving food based on diets; mechanically alter foods
Ability:
Motivate and supervise subordinates to attain quality and quantity of production in an institutional environment; communicate verbally and in writing, able to read and understand recipes; establish and maintain work relationships. Ability to work in a team oriented environment with staff and residents of different religious, cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to read, write and speak the English language Selective Preference(s): Supervisory experience in a food services establishment Assisted living or hospital setting preferred
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Valid Class 1 Arizona fingerprint clearance card Annual screen for TB with negative results Valid food handler's license

$19.00 per hour
