- 4:30PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 170-340 of these hours are dedicated to professional development.

—— About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship The California Climate Action Corps has over 400 positions available across California for the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—with 170-340 dedicated hours for professional development and training, providing hands-on experience in the climate field. CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion. ——— Applications are accepted May 1

——— Program Benefits Fellows at Foothill Unity Center will gain hands-on experience across both frontline operations and behind-the-scenes program work, including food distribution, food recovery logistics, volunteer management, and community engagement. Fellows will have access to free certifications and training—such as food handler, CPR, and equipment operation, benefit from mentorship by experienced staff and board members, and gain exposure to nonprofit networks and community-based climate action.

This hands-on service project tackles food insecurity and climate change simultaneously by rescuing edible food from landfills and giving it directly to families across the San Gabriel Valley. Fellows will help us expand our food distribution operations, strengthen our volunteer engagement, and mobilize community members to take meaningful climate action with measurable outcomes. As a Food Rescue Lead, you will not only support programs but also lead them. You'll coordinate and inspire volunteers, support food recovery and distribution, build partnerships with local businesses, and deliver engaging climate education in schools and community spaces. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food systems, community organizing, and environmental justice who wants leadership experience and a chance to make a visible, lasting impact. Duties include, but are not limited to: Support food distribution operations by leading and coordinating volunteers, packing and sorting food, and distributing food to the community Recruit, engage, and manage volunteers through service events, orientations, and trainings, and campaign development Build community partnerships, collaborate with local organizations, and conduct outreach at tabling events to promote food recovery and volunteer opportunities Facilitate composting efforts that divert organic waste from landfills Deliver climate education to facilitate lessons and workshops in schools and community settings focused on food waste reduction and climate action Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements Live in California by August 14, 2026 Be at least 18 years of age by August 14, 2026 Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate Preferred Qualifications/Skills Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and experience in community outreach, edible food recovery, engaging with K-12 students, environmental education, environmental justice/equity, event coordination & planning, public speaking/facilitation, and volunteer management & engagement. Must possess a valid driver's license. Fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish is a plus.
