Shift Kennel Supervisor - Behavior Focus Xylose Dog Rescue & Training - Alpharetta, GA About Us Xylose Dog Rescue and Training specializes in high-energy, working breeds and complex behavioral cases. We use fear-free, positive-reinforcement training to rehabilitate dogs and prepare them for successful adoption. We are hiring a skilled Shift Kennel Supervisor who can lead staff, maintain safety standards, and support advanced behavior cases.

Behavior Focus Starting Pay:

$23.50-$25.75/hr (based on experience) Full-Time | Leadership Role | Behavior & Safety Focused What You'll Do Shift Leadership & Staff Oversight Supervise kennel technicians and volunteers during assigned shifts Assign tasks, oversee workflow, and ensure high-quality care Train staff on proper handling, enrichment, safety, and behavior protocols Ensure all staff follow fear-free and positive reinforcement methods Respond to emergencies or behavioral escalations with calm leadership Oversee medication dose administration as directed by management or veterinary guidance Animal Care & Behavioral Oversight Oversee daily feeding, watering, and welfare checks Ensure enrichment, decompression, and behavior programs are implemented correctly Support trainers with rehabilitation plans and behavior exercises Monitor dogs for health or behavioral changes and document them Administer oral/topical medications as directed Assist the behavior and medical team during Behavioral Euthanasia cases, including handling, safety setup, emotional staff support, and maintaining a calm environment (

Supervisor does not perform euthanasia — only a licensed veterinarian or owner authorizes and carries out the procedure.) Aggression, Safety, & Specialized Handling (Level 3 / High Handler Required) Must have Level 3 or High-Level Handler experience Safely manage aggressive, fear-aggressive, or bite-history dogs Oversee and participate in handling of dogs in bite-quarantine Safely intervene during escalated or dangerous behavior situations Ensure proper PPE, slip lead, catch pole, and safety tool usage Lead emergency containment or crisis-handling procedures Facility Operations & Cleanliness Maintain sanitation standards across kennels, play yards, and indoor areas Ensure all disinfectants and cleaning products follow approved pet-safe chemical protocols Mix, dilute, and store chemicals safely following guidelines Confirm staff use only approved pet-safe products Oversee kennel flow, enrichment preparation, and general safety compliance Maintain inventory of PPE, cleaning supplies, enrichment items, and food Complete End-of-Shift Reports , including: Cleaning verification Chemical usage logs Behavior notes Incident reports Facility status Report maintenance or safety issues promptly Administrative & Communication Duties Complete shift reports, behavior logs, medication notes, and incident records Communicate concerns immediately to management, trainers, and medical staff Assist with daily task planning, scheduling input, and workflow oversight Support adopters, fosters, and public interactions professionally Submit Open Reports at the start of the shift and Close Reports at the end of the shift to the owners , including: Facility condition Dog updates Safety notes Completed tasks Any incidents or concerns Required Qualifications Professional Experience Minimum 3+ years working at a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or behavior-focused facility Experience handling high-drive, herding, and working breeds Supervisory or lead experience preferred but not required Physical & Handling Requirements Skilled in handling fearful, reactive, and aggressive dogs Able to lift, restrain, and guide dogs weighing 35-120 lbs Calm under pressure and able to lead during emergencies Strong teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities Committed to positive-reinforcement & fear-free handling Required Skills & Certifications Level 3 / High-Level Handler experience Pet CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days) Catch Pole Handling Certification (or willingness to complete) Ability to properly use: Slip leash Treat pouch/bag Reward-based tools Ability to assist with behavior/temperament evaluations Schedule Morning, mid-day, or evening supervisory shifts Weekend and holiday rotation required Optional on-call availability for emergency behavioral cases
