6 months with potential for extension or conversion to permanent employment Position Overview The Compounding Lead is responsible for supporting and overseeing daily compounding operations while ensuring production schedules, quality requirements, safety standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are consistently met. This is a hands-on leadership position that combines batch preparation and compounding with team coordination, training, documentation, troubleshooting, and compliance responsibilities. The Compounding Lead will serve as an important liaison between Compounding, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Production, and other departments. What You'll Do Coordinate daily compounding activities, assign batching responsibilities, monitor workflow, and help ensure production schedules are achieved. Review Chemical Batch Sets, obtain chemicals from staging areas, and weigh raw materials as required. Perform hands-on batch compounding and transfer completed batches to designated holding tanks or totes. Review batch documentation for accuracy and completeness and make appropriate corrections when necessary. Maintain and verify departmental logbooks, production records, batch yields, deviations, cycle times, shift performance metrics, and other required documentation. Collect and properly label samples for laboratory testing. Support customer trial and validation batches and implement adjustments recommended by the laboratory. Train, mentor, and support new and existing team members on compounding procedures, equipment operation, documentation, SOPs, and safety requirements. Maintain required tow motor certification and assist with team training as needed. Ensure employee training records and annual Training Matrices remain current, including training on new and revised SOPs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe compounding environment, including equipment cleaning and sanitation and proper waste removal. Monitor raw material inventory and coordinate with appropriate teams to ensure materials are available to support production schedules. Identify and report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly to minimize production interruptions. Partner with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Production, and other departments to troubleshoot issues and maintain efficient operations. Ensure compliance with GMP, SOPs, safety requirements, environmental policies, WHMIS, MSDS/SDS requirements, and company procedures. Help maintain an audit-ready department and support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and records. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving production quality. Provide team members with performance feedback and support professional development and goal setting. Respond to operational issues and emergencies within the compounding department to minimize production disruptions. Report and document incidents, deviations, and other production-related concerns as required. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field is a plus. Experience 4-6 years of compounding, batch manufacturing, or related manufacturing experience preferred. Previous leadership, lead, or team coordination experience strongly preferred. Experience working with batch documentation and GMP requirements preferred. Cosmetics, personal care, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, or other regulated manufacturing experience is a plus. Skills We're Looking For Strong understanding of GMP, SOPs, WHMIS, MSDS/SDS, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements. Ability to lead, train, and mentor team members while maintaining production schedules and quality standards. Strong batch documentation and recordkeeping skills with excellent attention to detail. Hands-on knowledge of compounding, batching, equipment operation, cleaning, and sanitation procedures. Ability to troubleshoot production, compounding, equipment, and documentation issues. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Knowledge of raw material inventory and inventory management practices. Experience supporting customer trials or validation batches is a plus.
