Occasional weekend on-call coverage may be required Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and dependable Custodial Services Supervisor to oversee custodial operations across multiple buildings. The Supervisor will manage a team of approximately 30 custodial employees and ensure that daily cleaning operations, staffing, scheduling, inspections, and service standards are maintained. This position is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership to custodial staff, monitoring work quality, addressing operational issues, and ensuring that assigned work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to established standards. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, organizational, and administrative skills, along with previous experience supervising custodial or facilities operations. Key Responsibilities Supervise and provide daily direction to approximately 30 custodial employees working across multiple buildings. Schedule and assign staff based on operational needs, staffing levels, priorities, and special requirements. Monitor daily operations to ensure assigned work and cleaning schedules are completed properly and on time. Conduct regular inspections of buildings and assigned areas to ensure cleanliness, quality, safety, and compliance with established standards. Follow up on inspection findings and ensure that corrective actions are completed. Monitor staffing, attendance, assignments, and overall employee performance. Conduct employee performance reviews, including 90-day reviews for applicable employees. Provide coaching, guidance, training, and feedback to custodial staff and other supervisors as needed. Conduct periodic assessments of new employees, approximately every 5-7 weeks, to evaluate progress, work quality, and adherence to expectations. Ensure employees are properly trained on cleaning procedures, equipment, safety practices, and work expectations. Monitor the use, care, and availability of custodial equipment, supplies, and materials. Ensure necessary supplies and materials are ordered and available for daily operations. Coordinate and oversee detailed cleaning projects and special cleaning assignments. Respond to operational emergencies, such as water spills, unexpected cleaning needs, facility issues, and other situations requiring immediate custodial attention. Coordinate staffing and cleaning support for holidays, special events, and other operational needs as required. Work across multiple buildings and adjust priorities based on changing operational requirements. Communicate effectively with management and other departments regarding custodial needs, concerns, and service issues. Maintain accurate records and complete required administrative and operational documentation. Address employee concerns and performance issues professionally and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Promote a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities The Supervisor will be expected to balance hands-on operational oversight with administrative responsibilities, including: Scheduling and assignment of employees. Monitoring attendance and staffing coverage. Tracking completion of work assignments. Reviewing work orders and ensuring requests are completed. Conducting inspections and documenting findings. Supporting employee evaluations and performance reviews. Identifying operational issues and recommending solutions. Communicating staffing and operational needs to management. Ensuring that custodial operations are running efficiently across assigned buildings. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in custodial, janitorial, facilities, housekeeping, or a similar service environment. Previous experience managing a team of employees is required. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Ability to schedule, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspect work and identify quality or performance issues. Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions when responding to operational needs or emergencies. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high service standards. Basic computer and administrative skills, including the ability to complete reports, schedules, and other documentation. Ability to work effectively across multiple buildings and manage changing priorities. Previous experience in a university, healthcare, commercial, or large-scale institutional environment is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while conducting inspections and supervising operations. Ability to move throughout multiple buildings and assigned work areas. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move custodial supplies and equipment. Ability to visually inspect cleaning work and identify areas requiring additional attention. Ability to work around cleaning chemicals, equipment, and other materials commonly used in custodial operations. Ability to perform occasional hands-on or detailed cleaning tasks when operationally necessary. Work Environment Primarily an on-site position working across multiple buildings. Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Occasional weekend on-call coverage may be required, approximately every 5-7 weeks. Holiday work may be required based on operational needs. The Supervisor will work closely with custodial staff, other supervisors, management, and building personnel.
