Job Description
UM Campus Dining invites applications for a Catering Service Supervisor to oversee direct operational supervision of catering events. In the absence of the Assistant Director and Events Manager they will assume the role of manager. This position reports directly to the Events Manager and assists with fiscal and personnel management of Catering. The Catering Service Supervisor directs and supervises up to 75 student service employees and assists the Executive Sous Chef with recruitment and supervision of back-of-the-house student employees. During events they will, in the absence of the Executive Sous Chef or the Chef de Cuisine, will supervise up to three Classified staff members and Temporary Staff members. Supervise all front-of-house student personnel functions, including hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, performance management, and shift supervision Oversee the execution of catering events by directing the setup, service, breakdown, and successful management of multiple events while ensuring exceptional guest service Collaborate with the Catering Executive Sous Chef to coordinate staffing, scheduling, and supervision of student culinary employees Manage daily catering operations, including opening and closing procedures, labor management, supply ordering, inventory control, and equipment maintenance Maintain high standards for food and beverage quality, presentation, service, receiving, holding, and storage while supporting kitchen and dish room operations as needed Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations to maintain a safe and sanitary operating environment Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with clients, campus departments, incoming students, parents, and other stakeholders, serving as the primary liaison during catered events High school diploma or GED equivalent Three (3) or more years of catering and/or restaurant related food service experience One (1) or more years in a high-volume food service operation Supervisory experience in a food service environment, including training, coaching, and supporting employees, including those new to the workforce Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse range of clients, guests, and team members Experience addressing personnel issues, resolving conflicts, and maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, with the ability to obtain ServSafe certification within one (1) year of employment Preferred Qualifications Two (2) or more years of supervision in a catering operation Experience in large food service operations Previous ServSafe certification A valid Montana driver's license or ability to obtain one at the time of employment
