Job Description

Position Summary:
This employee is responsible for coordinating the food service program, in keeping with nutritional guidelines, residence policies and food service budgets. Will also be responsible for ordering and preparing food, dining service, food service for special events and activities, maintaining proper food inventory. Must maintain regulatory compliance, and will direct and supervise food service employees.
Primary Responsibilities:
Food & Inventory 1. Prepare weekly menus as set up by contracted vendor, in accordance with residence policies and procedures, incorporating a variety of nutritional and seasonal foods. 2. Maintain proper inventory of food and supplies as set forth by regulations. 3. Maintain proper inventory of nutritional supplements for residents. Food Preparation & Dining Service 1. Prepare and cook food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents individual prescribed diets and food preferences. 2. Present food in appetizing and attractive manner 3. Assist in fostering residents' independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed. 4. Ensure that food is delivered on time, meeting proper food temperatures. 5. Assist with feeding residents as well as visiting each dining room every day to ensure quality service. 6. Prepare food and coordinate food for special events and holidays as requested. 7. Encourage residents to participate in the food service program and provide a forum for their input (i.e. resident dining council, anonymous surveys). 8. Work closely with Care Coordinators to ensure residents' changing dietary needs are being met. Regulatory Compliance & Sanitation 1. Ensure compliance with all health and sanitation regulations, and residence policies and procedures. 2. Maintain clean, organized and safe kitchen environment. 3. Ensure proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards. Hiring, Supervising & Training 1. Participates in the recruitment and hiring of food service employees. 2. Supervise food service employees, and ensure adequate staffing in the food service department. 3. Responsible for monthly staff schedule and serves on call for departmental staffing needs. 4. Lead by example, encourage teamwork, promote residence philosophy and provide ongoing coaching to direct employees. 5. Conduct regular performance appraisals with employees. 6. Ensure appropriate handling of on the job injuries as reported by employees. 7. Oversee and implement the training of all food service employees in accordance with state and federal regulations, residence policies, and training programs. Qualifications To fulfill job qualifications, employee must have the following qualifications: Current food service sanitation certification (Serv Safe) or be willing to obtain as soon as possible. Minimum of one-year experience in food service preferred. Supervisory or management experience preferred. Have a desire to work with older adults. Physical Job Requirements To fulfill job requirements, employee must be able to perform key physical tasks for extended periods of time. Proper body mechanics and safety measures as prescribed by the residence must be used. In typical day, employee may be required to: Stand/walk up to 12 hours per day. Sit up to 2 hours per day. Frequently support up to 30 pounds. Occasionally support up to 50 pounds. Frequently kneel, bend and reach.
