Job Description

Leader (Shift Supervisor)
Location:
Clary Anderson Arena, Montclair, NJPay Rate:
$22.00 -$25.00 per hour (commensurate with proven experience)
Position Type:
seasonal (Non-Benefits Eligible)
General Statement of Duties:
The Leader (Shift Supervisor) plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of Clary Anderson Arena. This position is responsible for overseeing daily facility activities, supervising staff, and maintaining a high standard of customer service and facility upkeep during assigned shifts. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of General Manager and Township Management who reviews performance for conformance to Clary Anderson Arena policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, train, and mentor facility staff members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Contribute significantly to staff performance management, including recommendations for hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Manage overall facility operations during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of all areas.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and foster a positive experience for all facility users and guests.
  • Prioritize and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for all patrons and staff.
  • Complete and accurately document all accident and incident reports.
  • Operate ice resurfacing equipment to maintain optimal ice quality (if applicable to specific rink operations).
  • Operate various maintenance equipment to ensure superior playing surface quality across all facility areas.
  • Oversee the efficient operation of the point-of-sale (POS) system during shifts.
  • Perform daily POS system reconciliation and cash handling procedures.
  • Provide oversight and support to coaching staff, referees, and scorekeepers in the absence of the Director.
Other duties as assigned by management and township management.
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent required; bachelor's degree desirable, applicable experience may be considered. three (3) years of leadership experience preferred.
Experience:
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively train, motivate, and manage a team. Previous experience in facility operations or a similar supervisory role, preferably within a sports or entertainment venue.
  • Proficiency in operating facility-specific equipment, including ice resurfaces and other maintenance tools.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with point-of-sale systems.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
Skills:
o Strong customer service and communication skills.o Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.o Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.o Ability to skate proficiently is preferred.o Prior experience in a customer-facing role is a plus.
Availability:
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements & Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, and skate for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a cold environment and varying temperatures associated with ice rink conditions.
