Job Description

Director of Food & Beverage Position Summary The Director of Food & Beverage is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all food and beverage operations at the South Carolina Yacht Club. This includes the Club's dining venues, bars, banquet facilities, catering operations, weddings, and member events. This individual will lead by example, creating a culture of hospitality, accountability, and excellence while developing a high-performing team committed to delivering exceptional member and guest experiences. The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality leader with a passion for service, strong financial acumen, and a proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain outstanding managers and team members. Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and develop department managers and hourly team members across all food and beverage operations. Build and foster a positive, service-focused culture centered on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, recognition, and performance management. Develop future leaders through succession planning and employee development initiatives. Promote open communication and collaboration between all departments to ensure seamless operations. Food & Beverage Operations Provide leadership and oversight for all Club dining outlets, bars, banquet facilities, catering services, weddings, and special events. Ensure exceptional execution of daily dining service while maintaining the highest standards of hospitality. Collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop innovative menus, seasonal offerings, and banquet packages that align with member expectations. Ensure consistency in food quality, beverage service, presentation, cleanliness, and overall guest experience. Maintain exceptional service standards while continuously seeking opportunities to elevate the member experience. Catering, Events & Weddings Oversee planning and execution of private events, weddings, member functions, and Club-sponsored events. Partner with clients and internal departments to ensure flawless event coordination from booking through execution. Monitor banquet operations to ensure events are executed efficiently, professionally, and within budget. Continuously evaluate event offerings and service standards to enhance the Club's reputation as a premier event destination. Financial Management Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and operating plans. Monitor labor costs, food costs, beverage costs, and operating expenses to maximize profitability while maintaining exceptional service. Analyze financial reports, identify trends, and implement strategies to improve operational performance. Manage purchasing, inventory controls, and vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost efficiency. Member Experience Build strong relationships with members and guests by maintaining a visible presence throughout the Club. Respond promptly and professionally to member feedback, concerns, and service opportunities. Work collaboratively with Club leadership to continually enhance member satisfaction and retention. Ensure all team members consistently deliver personalized, professional, and memorable service. Operational Excellence Ensure compliance with all health, sanitation, safety, and alcohol service regulations. Maintain Club standards for cleanliness, appearance, and professionalism throughout all food and beverage operations. Develop and implement standard operating procedures that improve efficiency and consistency. Collaborate with other department leaders to ensure exceptional communication and operational execution across the Club. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Five or more years of progressive food and beverage leadership experience, preferably in a private club, yacht club, resort, hotel, or upscale hospitality environment. Demonstrated success leading multiple dining outlets, banquet operations, weddings, and catering programs. Proven ability to build, mentor, and retain high-performing hospitality teams. Strong financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and cost controls. Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive and hands-on management style. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required. Desired Skills Passion for delivering exceptional hospitality and member experiences. Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume hospitality environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and hospitality management/POS systems (experience with JONAS is a plus). Knowledge of food safety, alcohol service regulations, and industry best practices. $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
