Job Description

Utah Valley University is seeking a part-time Food Service Lead to support the daily operations of the Library Café (Bytes & Brew Café) in a dynamic campus environment. This role provides hands-on leadership in overseeing day-to-day café operations, ensuring high-quality customer service, coordinating staff scheduling, and maintaining a clean, well-functioning facility. Working under the direction of the Manager of Branded and Retail Operations, the Food Service Lead helps ensure consistent application of food service policies and procedures while supporting efficient coffee shop operations, barista beverage preparation, and retail food service delivery. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys leading a team, delivering excellent service, and contributing to a welcoming campus dining experience. Under the direction of the Manager, Branded and Retail Operations, the supervisor manages the operations of the Library Cafe [The Bytes & Brew Cafe], including managing the day-to-day operations, customer service, scheduling, and upkeep of the facilities. Manages the food and beverage production making sure all foods and beverages are prepared and served observing sanitation standards. Assists the Manager of retail operations in coordinating all staff work load and is instrumental in the training process for all staff functions, including cashier training, and food and beverages operations training. Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree plus one year of experience in a related field or any combination of education and/or experience related to the position classification summary totaling a minimum of three years. Requires a Food handlers permit within 30 days of hire. Knowledge Knowledge of the management of a food service operation, including cost computations and comparative buying. Skills Skills in written and oral communication. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Skills in budget preparation for department operation. Abilities Ability to plan, organize, manage, supervise, and direct the activities of a cafeteria/coffee shop operation. Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
