Lifetime Adventures and Go Hike Alaska provide guided outdoor experiences throughout Anchorage and Chugach State Park. Our adventures include guided hiking, biking, kayaking, and other human-powered experiences designed to introduce visitors from around the world to Alaska's landscapes, wildlife, natural history, and outdoor culture. We believe a great guide does much more than lead someone down a trail. Our guides are responsible for creating safe, personal, educational, and memorable experiences while helping guests develop a genuine connection with Alaska. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced outdoor professional or aspiring Alaska guide who wants to finish the summer working outside, gain experience across multiple adventure disciplines, and potentially continue working with us during the winter and into the 2027 season.
POSITION SUMMARY
Adventure Guides lead guests on a variety of outdoor experiences throughout Anchorage and Chugach State Park. You will primarily guide hiking tours ranging from shorter interpretive outings to half-day and full-day adventures. Depending on experience and operational needs, you may also lead or assist with biking tours throughout Anchorage, including rides along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, Anchorage greenbelts, and other trail systems. Applicants with kayaking or paddle sports experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Opportunities may exist to assist with kayaking programs and other operations at Eklutna Lake. Our guides are responsible for the safety, transportation, education, and overall experience of our guests. You should be comfortable interacting with travelers from around the world and capable of combining outdoor leadership with excellent customer service. Guides should also be comfortable making decisions in changing outdoor conditions, responding appropriately to emergencies, and communicating professionally with guests, fellow guides, and management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead safe, engaging, and informative guided hiking experiences throughout Chugach State Park and the Anchorage area. Lead or assist with guided biking experiences on paved, mixed-use, greenbelt, and appropriate trail systems. Provide guests with interpretation of Alaska's natural and cultural environment, including wildlife, flora and fauna, ecology, geology, landscapes, and local history. Conduct thorough pre-trip safety briefings covering wildlife, terrain, weather, trail etiquette, biking safety, and other applicable hazards. Evaluate guest abilities and make appropriate decisions regarding pace, terrain, routes, weather, and overall risk. Properly fit guests with equipment including trekking poles, backpacks, bicycles, and helmets. Conduct basic bicycle safety inspections and identify equipment issues before and after tours. Ensure guest safety and follow company emergency procedures, providing First Aid/CPR when necessary. Transport guests to and from tour locations using company vehicles. Load, unload, organize, and care for bikes and other outdoor equipment. Provide exceptional customer service and create a welcoming environment for guests of varying ages, backgrounds, and outdoor experience levels. Take quality photographs of guests during tours using company or guest devices. Maintain professional and timely communication with guests, guides, office staff, and management. Promote Leave No Trace principles and responsible outdoor recreation. Assist with additional guided activities, large-group programs, equipment operations, and other adventure programming as needed. Guides with kayaking experience may assist with kayaking tours or Eklutna Lake operations when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience guiding, leading outdoor activities, working in tourism, outdoor education, or a similar guest-facing environment. Genuine passion for hiking, biking, Alaska, and spending significant time outdoors. Physically capable of hiking for extended periods over uneven and sometimes strenuous terrain. Comfortable riding a bicycle for extended periods and guiding guests with varying riding abilities. Possess strong communication and customer service skills. Confidently interact with guests from around the world. Remain calm, professional, respectful, and decisive during challenging or stressful situations. Possess a basic understanding of Alaska's environment, wildlife, ecosystems, terrain, and natural history — or possesses the motivation to learn quickly. Is punctual, reliable, adaptable, and comfortable working independently. Is willing to work outdoors in rain, wind, cold, and changing Alaska weather conditions. Can lift approximately 40-50 lbs. and assist with bikes and other outdoor equipment. Is available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years old. Valid driver's license. Clean driving record and ability to safely operate company vehicles. Current First Aid and CPR certification. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) strongly preferred. Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of hiking and biking tours. Ability to reliably work through the end of September.
SEASONAL & FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
This position is being hired specifically to help us complete our 2026 summer season through September 30. For the right person, however, the opportunity does not necessarily end there. We operate outdoor experiences throughout the year, and successful guides may have opportunities for fill-in or part-time work during the winter season based on availability, experience, and operational needs. Guides who successfully complete this position and demonstrate strong performance, reliability, professionalism, and alignment with our approach to guest service will also receive priority consideration for employment during the 2027 summer season.
