Chico, CA Job Details Part-time From $16.90 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Retail customer service procedures Customer communication Full Job Description Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government. Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Adventure Outings Equipment Room Student Staff . This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $16.90 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment. Students with an F-1 visa will need to provide additional documentation and obtain a Social Security Number. If hired, the area supervisor will provide more information. Adventure Outings Equipment Room Student Staff SUMMARY The equipment room offers a wide variety of outdoor gear and serves as the retail space for customers to rent equipment. Staff works under the direct supervision of the AO Program Coordinator and AO Equipment Room Manager. The program is looking for individuals who have an understanding of outdoor gear as well as basic outdoor activities. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, hard work, and understanding the needs of our customers so we can set them up with the right gear for all of their adventures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Open and close the rental shop Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team Attend staff meetings Assist with training of staff Assist customers in selecting the best gear for their needs Pack and unpack gear for Adventure Outings trips Participate in semi-annual equipment inventory Clean vans and equipment Repair and maintain equipment as necessary (rafts, stoves, tents, etc.) Maintain a clean and orderly work environment Communicate issues and problems quickly and effectively Perform special duties as assigned

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

This position works primarily in an indoor equipment storage and rental facility, with frequent movement between indoor and outdoor areas in varying weather conditions. The role requires regular physical activity, including lifting, carrying, and maneuvering heavy equipment such as rafts and climbing gear, with items frequently exceeding 50 pounds. Employees must be comfortable working at heights, including retrieving and storing oversized gear on shelving units over 6 feet tall using ladders or step stools. The work environment may be loud, dusty, and require sustained periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Staff are expected to safely operate and handle large, bulky items such as watercraft and group camping equipment, and must follow all safety protocols for equipment handling and storage. This role is physically demanding and requires employees to maintain a high level of energy and attention to safety throughout the duration of their shift.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Familiarity with the operations of Adventure Outings program Familiarity with outdoor recreation equipment Skill in one or more of the following program activities: rock climbing, mountaineering, whitewater rafting, kayaking, backpacking, backcountry skiing Ability to complete administrative tasks Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Retail or gear rental shop experience Completion of the Adventure Outings Foundations of Outdoor Leadership trip Experience as a Trip Leader, Assistant Leader, Bike Hub staff, or Climbing Wall staff for Adventure Outings

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate student) at California State University, Chico. CPR/AED & First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
