Job Summary Heritage Rail Bikes is seeking dependable, safety-focused Rail Bike Tour Guides to help operate scheduled rail bike tours. This is an active, hands-on outdoor role combining guest service, equipment handling, safety oversight, and practical problem-solving. Team members welcome guests, assist with check-in, explain safety procedures, prepare rail bikes, accompany guests during tours, move equipment on and off the track, and help keep the operation running safely and smoothly. This position requires working outdoors in a variety of conditions, including heat, rain, cold weather, wind, and darkness. Reliability, punctuality, and good judgment are essential. Key Responsibilities Greet guests and create a friendly, welcoming environment. Assist with guest check-in, waiver confirmation, and tour preparation. Prepare rail bikes before each tour, including cleaning, staging, positioning, and completing operational checks. Provide clear safety instructions before each tour. Help guests safely board and exit rail bikes. Ride and pedal with guests during assigned tours. Monitor the group and provide assistance throughout the ride. Move rail bikes on and off the track as needed. Safely push, pull, position, and maneuver rail bikes and related equipment, working with other team members when necessary. Assist with turning, staging, spacing, and positioning rail bikes. Help keep tours running safely and on schedule. Work during daytime and evening tours, including in low-light or dark conditions. Monitor guest behavior and enforce safety rules when necessary. Identify and report equipment issues, track concerns, guest incidents, and operational problems. Use good judgment and practical problem-solving skills when issues occur. Communicate clearly with managers, coworkers, and guests. Assist with opening and closing procedures. Keep loading areas, equipment areas, and guest spaces clean, organized, and safe. Requirements Candidates must be able to: Be reliable, punctual, and ready to work accepted shifts. Safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting with assistance and pushing, pulling, positioning, and maneuvering rail bikes and related equipment. Work outdoors in varying conditions, including heat, rain, cold weather, wind, and darkness. Stand, walk, bend, reach, pedal, and remain active for extended periods, including during warm weather. Communicate clearly and professionally with guests. Follow safety procedures and enforce rules when necessary. Think on their feet and solve basic operational problems. Remain calm under pressure. Work effectively as part of a team. Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward guests and coworkers. Helpful Experience Prior experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required: First aid or CPR Outdoor recreation Attractions or tourism Hospitality or guest services Summer camps Mechanical, maintenance, or equipment-handling work Event operations Railroad, biking, climbing, boating, or other adventure-recreation environments Schedule and Hours This is a seasonal, part-time position with variable hours based on customer bookings, weather, and operational demand. Applicants do not need full-time or completely open availability. We welcome candidates who can reliably work as little as one or two days per week, as well as those with broader availability. Tours may be scheduled on weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays, so we are building a team with availability across a variety of days and times. Applicants should clearly communicate their regular availability and may accept shifts that fit their schedules. Because staffing needs fluctuate with tour demand, the number of available shifts and hours may vary from week to week, and we cannot guarantee a minimum number of hours. However, once an employee accepts a shift, dependable and punctual attendance is essential.
