Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Clay County Historical Society is seeking a personable and enthusiastic Visitor Services Associate to join our team at the Hjemkomst Museum. This position blends customer service with cultural interpretation , connecting visitors to our mission through both storytelling and retail. The Visitor Services Associate helps create a meaningful experience for guests by interpreting the cultural significance of shop items, giving tours of the Hopperstad Stave Church, and providing exceptional service in our museum store.Key Responsibilities:
Answer basic guest questions about the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, the Hopperstad Stave Church Replica, temporary exhibits, and upcoming events. Answer the phone in the Heritage Gift Shop and answer questions from callers. Greet and assist visitors in the gift shop, ensuring a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. Provide interpretive tours of the Hopperstad Stave Church. Share the cultural stories and craftsmanship behind shop merchandise, helping visitors see these items as extensions of the museum experience. Handle sales transactions accurately and responsibly. Restock shelves and maintain product displays. Help maintain accurate inventory records. Support general museum operations as needed, including assisting with events and special programs. Do basic cleaning of museum space; dusting, vacuuming, removing trash, etc. This position requires some weekends and evenings.Qualifications:
Friendly, reliable, and comfortable engaging with the public. Interest in cultural history, art, or storytelling. Retail, customer service, or interpretive experience preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work weekends and occasional evenings Must be able to sustain a clear and understandable speaking voice.
