The Visitor Experience Associate plays a key role in the daily operations of IAAM, ensuring visitors feel welcomed, informed, and inspired throughout their time at the Museum and the African Ancestors Memorial Garden. Job Summary The Visitor Experience Associate supports the day-to-day operations of the Museum while delivering a safe, engaging, and exceptional visitor experience. This role is responsible for ticket sales, guest interactions, wayfinding, and providing outstanding customer service both indoors and outdoors. What We Offer Free employee parking Part-time vacation hours (for employees averaging 20+ hours per week) Complimentary museum membership A collaborative and mission-driven work environment Key Responsibilities Deliver a welcoming, informative, and engaging experience to all visitors Serve as a primary point of contact for guest questions, concerns, and feedback Facilitate ticket sales and admissions using the POS system Manage visitor flow in admissions areas, galleries, and the Memorial Garden Handle cash transactions accurately and report discrepancies promptly Assist with Museum Store operations and maintain merchandise care Support café operations, including basic food prep and sales Work across indoor and outdoor spaces as needed Assist with special events, including setup and breakdown Collaborate with team members and support other departments when needed Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and attendance standards Qualifications & Experience Prior customer service experience required (museum, attraction, or hospitality preferred) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Experience with POS, ticketing, or reservation systems preferred Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment Comfortable working with diverse audiences in person, via phone, and email Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Reliable transportation and consistent attendance Team-oriented with strong problem-solving skills Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the Museum for extended periods Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions Ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds Capable of navigating stairs and active public spaces Maintain professionalism and composure during busy or high-demand situations Additional Information This position requires flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and special events.
