Expo/Food Runner Job Description Position Summary The Expo/Food Runner is responsible for ensuring every food order is accurate, complete, presented properly, and delivered promptly to the correct guest. This position serves as the main connection between the kitchen and front-of-house team and plays an essential role in maintaining food quality and providing an excellent guest experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Organize and coordinate completed food orders at the expo station. Verify each order matches the kitchen ticket before it leaves the kitchen. Confirm proper portioning, presentation, temperature, garnishes, sauces, sides, and modifications. Communicate missing or incorrect items immediately to the kitchen team. Deliver food quickly and safely to the correct table and guest. Announce each item clearly when placing food at the table. Confirm guests have the necessary condiments, utensils, napkins, and side items. Assist servers by checking on guests shortly after food delivery when appropriate. Communicate guest concerns or requests promptly to the appropriate server or manager. Maintain constant communication with cooks, servers, bartenders, hosts, and managers. Prioritize orders to ensure food is delivered fresh and at the proper temperature. Keep the expo line, food-running area, trays, and surrounding workspaces clean and organized. Stock plates, trays, utensils, napkins, condiments, sauces, and other necessary supplies. Follow proper food-handling, sanitation, allergy, and cross-contamination procedures. Assist with clearing and resetting tables when business needs require it. Complete assigned opening, running, and closing duties. Support other team members during high-volume periods. Follow all restaurant policies, procedures, and service standards. Qualifications Previous restaurant experience is preferred but not required. Ability to read and understand order tickets and menu modifications. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Clear and professional communication skills. Ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient in a fast-paced environment. Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize multiple orders. Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented. Basic knowledge of menu items, ingredients, allergens, and table numbers. Must meet all applicable age and food-handler requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to carry large trays and lift approximately 25-40 pounds. Ability to bend, reach, balance, and move safely through crowded areas. Ability to work near hot equipment, hot food, steam, and kitchen noise. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as scheduled. Performance Expectations Food is delivered accurately, safely, and promptly. All modifications and allergy instructions are carefully verified. Plates meet presentation and quality standards before leaving the kitchen. The expo station remains stocked, clean, and organized. Communication between the kitchen and service teams is clear and respectful. Guest concerns are acknowledged and communicated immediately. Team members receive proactive support during every shift.
