JOB SUMMARY
This is an entry-level position involving food preparation and/or food serving. Under supervision by the Food Service Manager, the Server provides support in all areas of food services and assists with general cleaning. It is expected that this professional will follow food safety and sanitation guidelines and assist in the service of food in a courteous manner keeping particular attention to the specific dietary and texture needs of the residents they serve.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure proper dietary restrictions are followed for each resident in accordance with instructions from the Food Service Manager. Demonstrates proper handwashing techniques. Maintains a clean and presentable appearance consistent with food safety regulations and Uniform Policy. Demonstrates proper understanding of cleaning and sanitizing food contact areas. Monitors and maintains required temperature logs. Serves residents in a professional, courteous and timely manner ensuring a positive dining experience. Displays awareness and follows diet orders of all special dietary needs, special textures, allergies, and requirements of the residents. Communicates clearly with Chef Manager and Supervisor potential allergens and texture sensitive meals needed daily. Follows procedures for safe food preparation, assembly, and presentation. Has complete understanding of setting up and breaking down the front of house set up before and after meals including place settings and resident seating plans. Assist with tray line operations, meal plating, dessert preparation, and tray assembly for resident meal distribution. Serve meals, beverages, soups, and desserts to residents while maintaining appropriate dining service standards. Maintains a stocked, organized, and clean supply cabinets in front of house. Completes assigned opening and/or closing duties for dining rooms, kitchen areas, and service stations. Operates and maintains dining service equipment, including steam tables, coffee urns, carts, and refrigeration units. Helps problem solve food issues and kitchen problems in an accurate and timely manner. May be required to cover absences within the food service program as necessary and as assigned by Food Service Manager within scope of skillset and ability. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Dependable and punctual with ability to maintain consistent attendance . Ability to read, write and comprehend English. Ability to maintain sound judgement under stress and communicate effectively. Provide residents with information regarding ingredients and food preparation. Comply with relevant safety hygiene, serving standards and procedures. Proficient understanding of food allergies and modified diets. Understanding of HAACP requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to regularly stoop, bend, kneel, lift, stand, walk, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time. Must be able to regularly lift objects up to 25 pounds and at times up to 35 pounds. Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization's physical premises as well as related community care settings. Must be able to tolerate conditions typically associated within a kitchen setting.
Experience:
1 year of related kitchen experience, Preferred 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population,
Preferred License & Certification Requirements:
RI Food Safety Manager License, Preferred Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required Pay:
$18.00 per hour
