JOB GOAL
To develop students listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills that are fundamental to good communication and literate citizenship; to develop appreciation of good literature of all types; to motivate students to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; and to discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Barrington Public Schools and other appropriate learning activitiesSelects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required inventory recordsDevelops standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literatureEncourages pupils to think independently.

Evaluates each students progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) according to the Common Core State StandardsPromotes the attainment of the Districts Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Displays strong and deep knowledge of the philosophical foundations and content of the curriculumApplies current research-based best instructional practices and strategies to deliver the curriculum, and understands how knowledge is constructed within the disciplinePlans and prepares lessons to optimize learningPromotes deep understanding of content by addressing unique learning styles, adapting instruction to meet the needs of all students, engaging students in rigorous learning experiences, using effective questioning techniques, and relating instruction to the student's life and to prior and future learningContribute to and implement plans, including but not limited to IEPs, 504s, and individual health plans, for students with unique needsReinforces strong student effort and excellent student work productsFacilitates student learning through the use of various collaborative grouping structures that are appropriate to the instructional taskRequires students to regularly engage in high-level activities, including but not limited to application and analysis of informationAdministers and interprets various types of assessmentsMaintains accurate student records as a result of the monitoring of regular formative and summative assessment of curriculum attainment; adjusts instruction for individuals and groups of studentsMakes appropriate referrals and is prepared with credible and accurate documentation.
